On Friday, Nov 21st I attended the match-up of 6A Cateel Colts hosting the 5A Ironwood Eagles. The Eagles are one of the top teams in 5A and the Colts are a top-15 6A team.

I checked out all three levels with Freshman, JV and Varsity.

Here were the standouts on the night

Freshman Game (52-40 Casteel won)

[player_tooltip player_id='3100392' first='Leo' last='Tinoco'] Casteel

A scoring point guard with good court vision combined with a tighter handle. He really gets the game and he will advance pass and throw perfect darts to teammates. He has a pretty looking three point shot with a high arcing stroke and has a nice hesitation move to get past his initial defenders. He also hustles on defense to collect steals. He had close to 20 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='3100393' first='Landon' last='Ballif'] Casteel

A point guard will drive and kick and finds the open scorers. He has a nice shooting stroke as he gets squared quickly to get his shot off with a fast trigger. He has a very polished floater game that he often utilizes and is a neck up type of player. He had 10+ points.

[player_tooltip player_id='3100401' first='Zahe' last='Almasri'] Ironwood

A thicker framed forward who can shoot the three. He has good size and comes with a quicker release and good ball rotation. He can play both forward positions on defense and rebounds well in his area.

Junior Varsity Game (55-40 Ironwood won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2947347' first='Braylon' last='Hartley'] Ironwood

A bigger point guard who will throw up the court ropes and advance passes about as well as you can. He sees plays developing very quickly and processes the information like an older player. He plays off of two-feet and will then find the cutter or open shooter. He rebounds well for a guard and he will hit the three off the catch or pull.

[player_tooltip player_id='2949468' first='Carmelo' last='Hankton'] Ironwood

A strong combo guard is a catch and shoot three point gunner. He moves the ball like you should as a real combo guard. He will give a hard ball fake and drive it and uses the floater game to his advantage. He also rebounds well in his area.

[player_tooltip player_id='2848300' first='Zador' last='Denman'] Ironwood

A two-way defensive guard is very fast and athletic. He is super aggressive and he is hyper competitive to compete on defense. He has a different gear then most and can turn the corner and get to the rim quickly for layups with contact. He scored 12 points.

Varsity Game (57-54 Casteel won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2552787' first='Landen' last='Martineau'] Casteel

A pure point guard with a tighter handle who can score. He sees the court well and he can throw players open. He has deep three point rage with a quick trigger. He will also shoot it with mid-range jumpers and he has a polished floater game. He scored 10 points with close to 5 assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='2295695' first='Matt' last='Crowder'] Casteel

An athletic two-way scoring guard is a good out of area rebounder and a very aggressive defender. He will score with rip thrus with plus control around traffic, he will cut to the basket for and-1's, hit the mid-range jumper and has a tough euro step game. He will rebound, defend multiple positions and he is a sneaky good passer. He scored 14 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1571924' first='Sir' last='Myles'] Casteel

An undersized point guard with athleticism and a tighter handle. He will score with the floater game after a burst of speed to the basket. He will shoot it with mid-range pull-ups with impressive elevation and hit the three with range. He is also tough on the ball defensively. He scored 7 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1938807' first='Makenzie' last='Lazor'] Casteel

A breakout type of performance for Lazor. He was very active on defense with rebounding and blocking shots and scored it. He will score with fall ways from the elbow and in, inside layups and he will step out and shoot the three. He scored 12 points with 5+ rebounds and 3 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='2295694' first='Ben' last='Gruver'] Casteel

A bigger combo guard is a natural scorer using his size, skil and a deceptive tight handle. He can dribble drive into a crow hop, get downhill and fall away from mid-range. He scored 10 points with some clutch shots in the tight game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2295723' first='Charlie' last='Sharp'] Casteel

A shooting guard who is a very physical defender with a stronger upper body and plus length. He is a smart decision maker with advanced court vision and rebounds well for a guard. He will use a quick burst getting to the basket and dribble past his initial defender with contested shots at the basket. They will lean on him all year and he scored 21 points with 6 3's made.

[player_tooltip player_id='2045282' first='Landon' last='Jones'] Ironwood

A long and lean scoring guard who can light it up from the three point line with deep range and a super quick trigger. He will score with offensive rebound put backs and shows toughness taking charges. He is rebounding better then ever with some improving athleticism. He scored 14 points with 7 rebounds unofficially.

[player_tooltip player_id='1680840' first='Ricky' last='Denman'] Ironwood

A physical forward will defend multiple positions and score it. He will dribble drive with his right or left hand and score with and-1's in traffic. He will quickly rip thru and earn trips to the free throw line. He rebounds well in his area.

[player_tooltip player_id='3100516' first='Jeo' last='James'] Ironwood

A newcomer for me is a deep three point shooter off the catch. On Friday, Nov 21st I attended the match-up of 6A Cateel Colts hosting the 5A Ironwood Eagles. The Eagles are one of the top teams in 5A and the Colts are a top-15 6A team.
