The month of September provides a key chance for High Schools to get back to work and display their prospects to College Coaches. This week, I will be in Charleston, South Carolina, to visit an open practice for some of the best schools in the area. Check out this deep dive into West Ashley High School, featuring notes on their top players and what could be in store for the team as a whole in 2025-26:

Open Practice Evaluations:

[player_tooltip player_id='2467362' first='Jackson' last='Terrell'] - [player_tooltip player_id='2467362' first='Jackson' last='Terrell'] leads off the list of open practice evaluations. Jackson is one of the elite prospects in the Palmetto State, and one that many in the Charleston area think can be great. He had a strong day on Wednesday, impressing with his athleticism around the basket. Terrell will be very active in the dunker spot, as a lob-threat, and in dribble hand-off actions, but becoming a dominant defender is the next step in his development.

[player_tooltip player_id='2861505' first='Corbin' last='Guerry'] - Corbin makes up the other half of West Ashley's dynamic big man duo. Guerry might not be the fastest or most athletic big man, but he is extremely skilled as a scorer and a passer. Both of those areas were on display on Wednesday, as he focused on his finishing from the dunker spot and with his back to the basket, as well as his dribble hand-offs and perimeter passing.

[player_tooltip player_id='2458425' first='Kendell' last='Mack'] - Mack has a lot of responsibility on his hands as a result of some of the departures from last year's team. His defensive ability will make the younger guys better in practice, but it's his offensive skill that will be relied on during big games. A lot of the open practice was centered around pick-and-roll playmaking, but Kendell worked on his pocket passing and lobs to Terrell.

[player_tooltip player_id='2863558' first='Maurice' last='Cannon'] - Maurice is an intriguing Wing for the Wildcats who will only improve as he gets more reps in their system and day in their development program. He has a good combination of length and athleticism that allows him to be a factor around the ball, but Cannon is also an improving three-point shooter, which will lead to big things from him down the line.

[player_tooltip player_id='2909086' first='Eli' last='Arbiv'] - [player_tooltip player_id='2909086' first='Eli' last='Arbiv'] rounds out the list of open practice evaluations. He is one of a few Guard options that Coach McLean will be able to call on. I was impressed with Eli's combination of shooting and passing in Wednesday's drills, although the flashes will have to become bright and more consistent in order for him to become a big piece in his Sophomore Year.

Team Takeaway:

There are lofty in-house expectations for the West Ashley Wildcats this season. If they are to finally get over the hump and make it to the State Championship Game, it's because the combination of [player_tooltip player_id='2467362' first='Jackson' last='Terrell'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2861505' first='Corbin' last='Guerry'] is too big and skillful for opponents to handle. However, with Guards [player_tooltip player_id='2458425' first='Kendell' last='Mack'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2484554' first='Eric' last='Jenkins'], who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, the Wildcats have two-way Guards that will be able to carry them in tight games. I left practice with questions about West Ashley's shooting and spacing, but the addition of [player_tooltip player_id='2973811' first='Leo' last='Lowe'] and the continued progression of [player_tooltip player_id='2863558' first='Maurice' last='Cannon'] could solve that.
