The versatile 6-foot-4 combo guard led Thurston in scoring, helping the Colts return to the 5A state tournament for the first time in a while. He's aiming for a big senior campaign, one where he can not only help lead the team to continued success but also capture the attention of collegiate programs, where he's already received some love from playing this spring in club basketball.

"I played for Elite 24, we were on the Under Armour circuit and it was good, we went all over," Labounty said. "We went to Ohio, Cleveland, Spooky Nook (Pennsylvania) and it went well, we all played good. (My game) translated for sure - I've been putting a lot of work in this summer and I'm excited for July."

Part of the work Labounty has been refining his game. While his shooting and scoring has continued to be at a high level, he's also adjusting to a shift in role for the Colts - one that was visible this June when he was playing summer league with his high school teammates.

"I've been trying to get my shot off the dribble a lot because I'm elevating more to the point guard," Labounty said. "So I'm handling it a lot, so I've been taking in pressure."

Labounty has started getting attention on the recruiting trail and noted he's mostly hearing from D-II and D-III schools so far, naming off Western Oregon, Pacific (Ore.), Puget Sound, and Cal Lutheran as some of the programs recently making contact. While others may have something in mind when it comes to a college when it comes to the school or program, Labounty is truly keeping it wide open and absorbing it all.

"It's all new to me," Labounty said. "But I want a culture off the court and I'm looking at academics, obviously.

With June ball done, Labounty now shifts his focus to the month of July back with E24 but after that, he's certainly looking forward to his last high school season.

"5A is good - you probably know about all the transfers, so it'll be a fun season," Labounty said. "But I think we're good. Midwestern League, I think we can still run it back three times. We're doing good."
