Shepel is wildly intriguing. The 6-foot-8 power forward has great size and upper body strength, but he also has a super versatile skillset and the toughness to go with it. He had a number of super impressive straight-line drives to the rim against opposing forwards, and he showcased the ability to use his strength while still finishing with finesse, both as a driver and back-to-the-basket player. Shepel can make threes, too, and is a willing and able passer as a result of his ability to see over the defense. The Ukraine native certainly seems like a scholarship-level player to me, so I’ll be curious whether yesterday moved the needle for him at all.
