Swearingen had himself one of those forever moments. He hit a shot that they’ll be talking about at high school reunions 25 years from now. But let’s start at the beginning. Swearingen was forced to create and find shots due to tough D from Lincoln Park. But he responded. Swearingen created looks at the rim off the bounce and even buried a triple with contact, successfully drawing the foul and the 4 point play. Now the end. With the game tied and time running down, everyone knew who was shooting that shot. Swearingen went off balance from a few feet beyond the arc and it was still a no doubter. Ball was good from the release.

Riverview takes on Grosse Ile tonight in a matchup that will feature some high level perimeter play! Swearingen is having a great senior season and is one of the most exciting seniors to watch. He’s a dynamic guard that can put up points in a hurry. He has volleyball line range on his jumper, but can also use his athleticism and finish above the rim.

Swearingen helped his team defeat Milan. The Big Reds came out with the intent of slowing Swearingen. Even facing constant double teams and face guarding, he still got some buckets, including a steal and a dunk on the other end. He hit a nasty left to right free throw line leaner that was basically impossible to defend. Swearingen played smart and efficient basketball and didn’t force things to get buckets. In fact, his best play of the night might have been an over the top baseline feed for an assist.

Riverview will travel to Taylor tonight. If you saw clips of Swearingen’s last game, then you know why he’s here. He went off for an electric 28 point performance. Swearingen was flat out making tough shots look easy. He showed volleyball line range from the top and showed that he could shoot in traffic and through closeouts everywhere else.

Riverview is at home tonight against Gibraltar Carlson. If you were at the Prep Hoops Expo this fall, you know that Swearingen is a next level guard. I KNOW there are coaches out there that will be tracking this game and Swearingen as a player throughout the season. He’s a playmaker with body control and physicality.

I knew that there was something I liked about his game when I saw him during high school season. Swearingen came to Grand Rapids and sent a message. He can be a real playmaker from the perimeter. He could attack the rim athletically and even adjusted in the air on a finish. Swearingen played very well off contact, even showing the ability to initiate it. He was also a 2 way player that played D with a lot of heart.

Swearingen caught my attention last high school season and he’s grabbing the attention of college coaches as we speak. He’s a solid playmaker that’s very comfortable going at the rim. He can finish from the mid range as well as finish with a touch floater. Swearingen could put a huge stamp on his game in Grand Rapids.
