Peek At Prospects: Berkley @ Stoney Creek

I recently had the opportunity to evaluate some players when Berkley visited Stoney Creek. Stoney Creek was impressive in their 63-43 win against Berkley. Let's take a closer look at some of the athletes that took the floor in this contest.    Rauner came out of the gates firing and firing effectively. He had 8 points in the first 4 minutes of the contest. Rauner created space off contact and hit a pretty baseline jumper. He then buried a couple catch and shoot 3's. Meanwhile Rauner was also hitting the floor for loose balls. In the second half, he impressed me with his ability to play off the screen. He led the way offensively, finishing with 14 total points.     Sermo is definitely an underclassman to keep an eye on. He handles the ball well and can be trusted as a primary ball handler. Sermo can play well in a pick and roll offense and he moves the ball intelligently and quickly along the perimeter. He showed the ability to drive, touch the paint and dish off an assist or score with a slick finish. Sermo's highlight may have been when he stepped in and took a charge early in the game.     Zoorob caught my eye in the Stoney Creek win. I thought that he was very influential in the win. Zoorob had a really strong righty take to the rim that he finished for 2. I liked this move because he saw and recognized the double lane and attacked it. Zoorob actually did this twice with the dribble drive, scoring both times. He also showed that he could effectively feed the post.     Sermo was solid in this game and is a senior that coaches should keep a close eye on. He's a confident shooter, and he should be. Sermo flaunted some very deep range on his jumper and could stay balanced and hit it off the catch. He also showed some pretty touch on the ball with a soft floater.     I was just so impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='1440653' first='Tyree' last='Smith'] in this game. He came off the bench and provided an instant offensive spark. He shook defenders off the bounce and was very effectively aggressive with his left hand. Smith attacked the rim and the mid range and just made plays. He even used a jump stop to let a defender fly by and scored the easy bucket.     Young has some game, that much is certain. He did a great job utilizing his speed and quickness by attacking space. Young had the first step and speed needed to put a defender on his hip. He scored in transition through a defender and had touch on an early floater.     I love watching players that flat out want to compete. That sums up what I saw out of Beckeman in this game. He wants to play hard and win. That simple. Beckeman was big, strong and he used it. He established position with power and can be very valuable in his ability to seal weakside defenders when a guard attacks the rim.     Haenick will be a key part of the success of this Berkley team this year. I was impressed with his ability to use both hands and his willingness to go downhill with the ball. Haenick drew a foul and finished a layup when he was in attack mode. He also had a pretty baseline mid range jumper off an inbound.
