Previews: Dickinson & Gayville-Volin

PHD has two Team Previews for you today. We are covering both North Dakota and South Dakota.   Take a look at the Midgets from Dickinson and the Raiders from Gayville-Volin!   Other than both teams being in the Dakotas, they do not have much in common. The Midgets are in the biggest Class in ND (AA) and the Raiders are in the smallest Class in SD (B). Dickinson is located in western North Dakota and Gayville-Volin is located in southeast South Dakota. Dickinson and Gayville are 527 miles apart! "Overall, last year was a pretty good year. We had some ups and downs, but we stuck together and made it to the State Play-In Game. We came up 10 points short, but competed every minute we were on the court."   PHD: Who will be your primary ballhandler this year? PHD: How did the off-season go for your team/program?   "We had a very nice off-season. We really focused on getting bigger and stronger. We spent a lot of time in the weight room together. We felt our biggest weakness last year was our lack of strength. So we tried to do everything possible to change that."   PHD: Who are a few of your top players to look out for?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2617657' first='Nolan' last='Weidner'] is a great all-around player. He can do everything on offense and is a good defender as well. [player_tooltip player_id='2639494' first='Jack' last='Hammond'] is a strong player that can hit the outside shot. [player_tooltip player_id='1510890' first='Dylan' last='Glasser'] is quick and strong and can score outside and gets to the rim very well. He can also be a shutdown defender. [player_tooltip player_id='2617633' first='Boston' last='Cranston'] is a returning All-Conference that always finds a way to score. His passing as a point guard is also a great strength of his. [player_tooltip player_id='2617637' first='Cameron' last='Wolf'] is one of the smartest players in the state. His length helps him on both ends in scoring and deflecting passes and rebounding. [player_tooltip player_id='1539675' first='Nathan' last='Stevenson'] is a very strong, young player that is very competitive. He also works very hard and is a great all-around player that does just about everything."   PHD: Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for?   "[player_tooltip player_id='1539675' first='Nathan' last='Stevenson'] is a sophomore who will have a big role on our squad this year."   PHD: Who do you think will be your top interior players?   "We really lack size as a team this year again.  [player_tooltip player_id='2617637' first='Cameron' last='Wolf'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1539675' first='Nathan' last='Stevenson'] will need to be able to bang with other team's bigs with our matchup problems."   PHD: What are the goals for the season?   "Finish in the top 4 of league play. Qualify for the State Tournament."   PHD: Who will be your hardest worker?   "Our team has multiple kids that work their tail off. Because we are so outmatched by other team's size, we don't have any other option if we want to be successful. We have to outwork and out-hustle teams if we want to see any success." Spencer's strengths are that he can score from the outside and has the ability to finish at the rim. Spencer is a knowledgeable basketball player and is very competitive. I expect Spencer to be our leader and leading scorer and help set the tempo of the game." We hope to work him off ball which will help us to be a more complete team."   PHD: How did the offseason go for your team/program?   "We worked hard individually and as a team. We worked on our individual skills during open gyms and worked on our team skills during basketball camps. They also worked hard in the weight room to get stronger and move quicker." PHD: Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for?   "We have a group of upcoming freshmen who will be good if they stick with it. They work hard and put a lot of time in."   PHD: Who do you think will be your top interior players?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2263240' first='Preston' last='Karstens'] -He has the ability to score inside and has a nice little outside shot. Preston's size is hard to handle inside."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2263356' first='Nate' last='Selchert'] – His size is hard to handle on the inside and will be a rebounding presence."   PHD: What are the goals for the team this year?   "1. Win the Conference 2. Advance to the Sweet Sixteen 3. Win 15 games or more"   PHD: Who will be your hardest worker?   "Our whole team works hard and is led by [player_tooltip player_id='2263242' first='Spencer' last='Karstens'], but the whole team puts in a lot time of pushes hard."   PHD: Any last comments about the upcoming season?   "I look forward to coaching this team, they have put in a lot of time and hopefully, it pays off."
