Unranked Guard Duos to Watch

With the high school basketball season coming up, a few of the best undiscovered and unranked players are ready to make themselves known. This list will take a look at a few backcourt duos that are looking for a spot on our rankings.   Olpe - [player_tooltip player_id='2488757' first='Brecken' last='McGuire'], Abbott Bailey    McGuire was one of Olpe's go-to scoring options last year. He's a consistent shooter, can play off the bounce, and never seems rushed offensively. His performance in 2023-24 made him the only freshman to be named to the All-Lyon County first-team. With an even larger role likely on the horizon, McGuire is set for a huge season in the winter.     Bailey was named to the Lyon-County all defensive team last year as a freshman. There should be no surprise if he makes the list every year until he graduates. He has great instincts and can guard almost anybody on the court. He's a good athlete and hard worker, making him very tough to score on. Offensively, Bailey is a solid playmaker in transition and a good perimeter scorer.    Andale - Austin Baalmann, Harrison Potucek    Baalmann's strength, size, physicality, and hustle alone make him a solid player. Add in a knock-down jump shot, solid ball handle, and skilled finishing around the rim, and he's a tough man to stop. He's a great catch-and-shooter. He can hit set shots or shots on the run. He also is a good finisher who can punish defenders inside and finish off two feet. He also hits the offensive glass hard and converts second chance points.     Potucek is a dangerous offensive weapon to pair with Baalmann. He's a great slasher who mixes his speeds and finishes to keep defenses guessing. He's good at staying balanced and finishing through contact. Potucek also has a solid jump shot that he can play off of as well. An area where Potucek really shines is transition. He can get out ahead of the defense and consistently makes smart plays in 2-on-1 or 3-on-2 situations.    Stanton County - David Crane, Gerardo Robles    Crane leads all Stanton County returners in points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, and 3-pointers. That's not to say he has no help, but Crane is the undisputed leader of this team. He averaged nearly 2 blocks and 2 steals per game last year, and will likely be one of the best defenders in 2A this year. He also has a chance to raise his scoring output, with the departure of three of Stanton County's top five scorers from last season.     Robles is right behind Crane as Stanton County's second best returner in nearly every category. He's another great leader for this team, with a great feel for the game and a lot of heart. Robles has a good jump shot and is good at creating opportunties off the bounce. He's a high effort player, willing to put his body on the line to make plays happen. He's a tough defender and is great at forcing turnovers by moving his feet and pressuring the ball.    Fort Scott - Dierks Kegler, Dub Chipman    Kegler has a knack for collecting steals and hitting three-pointers in bunches. He has multiple games last year with multiple threes and can gather three or more steals on any given night. He's quick in transition and is good at converting looks around the rim. Kegler was named second-team All-Southeast Kansas and has a good chance to make the first-team with a solid junior season this year.     Chipman plays a similar defensive role to Kegler. He forces turnovers and creates fast break opportunities multiple times a game. Offensively, he has a good jump shot and is quick attacking the rim in transition. He's also a capable rebounder and solid playmaker. He was an All-Southeast Kansas honorable mention, but his consistent all-around game could lead to a big final season for Chipman
