Expert Analysis
Chad Graham | Prep Hoops Scout
In the win over St. John Vianney on Sunday, Watson made a ton of plays on defense and did a bit of everything on offense. He rotated over and blocked a shot in the first half, then came up with a handful of turnovers in the second, picking his man’s pocket on-ball and gloving passes off-ball. Earning everything he got offensively, Watson hit a variety of shots inside the arc; pull-up twos, floaters, and layups off of two feet. He also got the young guys involved with secondary playmaking. 12p 4r 3a 4s 1b

It can be hard for pure point guards to stand out in camp settings that often favor scorers, but Watson was able to defy that notion in making Top-60 all-star honors by simply running the show and making others better. The two-way guard set the tone with dogged on-ball defense, forcing numerous turnovers with his relentless ball pressure. Watson was consistent in dancing to his spots efficiently off the dribble before setting teammates up for easy looks both at the rim and beyond the arc. After a strong summer on the AAU circuit, Watson continues to build momentum heading into his sophomore season with the chance to emerge as a scholarship-level floor general down the line.
