absolutely dominated in every facet of the game. He was scoring on confident drives to the basket and off the dribble shooting, using his tight handle and burst. He also made high level reads in transition, displaying his basketball IQ.

Tabales lit up the gym with his perimeter display cashing in frequently from behind the arc. The shots he made from deep were very loud and had everyone’s eyes in the gym focused on him. He was also able to get paint touches on the attack and showed some flashes as a scorer on the interior. He has the ability to get a bucket in the blink of an eye. Tabales picked up a few offers with his play past weekend and should be a priority for LM+/MM- schools.

A 6’2″ lead guard for New Hampton, Tabales impressed as much as any guard at the event, leaving with new scholarship offers and additional college interest at the mid-major level. He clearly thinks the game well, understands angles and spacing, and does a nice job of picking his spots as a scorer and creator. As a scorer, he lets the game come to him and plays with a smoothness that’s fun to watch. He’s got wiggle off the bounce, knows how to manipulate defenders in ball screens, and can really score from deep with the ball in his hands. He still plays with a little edge, some toughness, that doesn’t go unnoticed on the defensive end of the floor. Basically, he’s got a high compete level and plays the game with joy. He’s a leader and a winner and will have plenty of coaches continue to follow him throughout the summer and into his final prep school campaign.

Tabales had a couple of incredible performances this weekend, but his game against Newman stood out. He ran the point guard position for a very different-looking New Hampton team; he carved up defenses in the pick and roll and hit shooters for spray outs with ease. But most notable was his ridiculous shot-making from both the mid range and three. He got to wherever he wanted on the floor and rose up, and despite the defense contesting a lot of his shots, he still stroked it. Amazing performance from Tabales who should have an extremely high usage rate for New Hampton this season.

Tabales continues to separate himself as one of the best shooters in New England. He has such a beautiful stroke and gets high off the ground when he shoots, which makes up for his relative lack of size. He also has great range and can shoot the ball in a variety of situations; spotting up, running off screens, backpedaling, off the dribble, etc. Tabales also has some on-ball chops, though we don’t see them as much when he’s playing on such a stacked New Hampton team. He has great vision and operates wonderfully in the pick and roll. One of my favorite players to watch.

Tabales is a hooper, through and through. His handles and the way he operates offensively looks like it’s out of a basketball fundamentals book; he’s so compact with his dribble and his shot is picture perfect. I was especially impressed with his passing ability and vision against Bridgton. He can make the pocket pass in the pick and roll but also the no-look flashy passes to teammates in the dunker spot. Defensively, Tabales has excellent hands, which makes up for his relative lack of size. Also an underrated athlete. I love his game and he should be getting scholarship looks.

Tabales is similar to Harrington in a lot of ways; he strokes it from three, and he knows how to move without the ball to create space for his teammates and make himself available for kickout passes. However, he also has some on-ball chops as a pick and roll handler, where he reads the defense well and has some surprising athleticism once he gets into the paint. Like Harrington, the junior plays the right way and is constantly helping his teammates operate with space, even if he isn’t touching the ball. The on-ball stuff would certainly pop if he wasn’t sharing the floor with Tillery, Blackwood and Meyer.

First saw him a couple years ago on Worcester North and knew he was going to be special. An improved more consistent shooter who can get red hot off transition, spot up or off the dribble. A good passer using one hand and using outside hand. Can rebound well for a guard. I love watching him communicate, fight over the top of screens to deny quality shooters and has unbelievable hands catching the ball.

Tabales has one of the prettier shots in the state of Massachusetts; he gets it off quickly, and he has beautiful footwork when using screens off the ball. He also showed the ability to attack closeouts when defenders started overplaying his three-ball, and he made great decisions once he got into the lane. Tabales plays the game the right way, and he’ll be rewarded at the next level as a result.

Tabales was cooking from the paint, the midrange and the three-point line in the first half of Saturday night’s matchup between the Middlesex Magic and White Mamba. He was getting into the lane effortlessly and making plays for his teammates from there but also stroking it from downtown off of double and triple move creations. Really talented player who was ready for the moment from the start – definite scholarship guy, my guess would be at the low D1 or D2 level. Some quickness or athleticism improvements in the next couple years could certainly change that, though.
