#1 Fargo North
2-0 over the WDA to start the season. They were both close but the Spartans found a way to win.
Next Up: At Shanley on Friday 12/8
Congrats to Carter Zeller Carter Zeller 6'6" | PF Fargo North | 2024 State ND on scoring his 1,000th career point! Zeller had a monster weekend. He hit the game-winner on Friday night and he put up gaudy numbers on Saturday against the Sabers. Carter has started his senior season with a bang and I doubt he will slow down anytime soon. He should have another splashy game on Friday when the Spartans invade Deacon territory. North is still without Jeremiah Sem Jeremiah Sem 6'3" | SG Fargo North | 2024 State #303 Nation ND , so until they get him back, we are not completely sure what North will look like. The Spartans have loads of talent, athleticism, and length, it will just depend on the style of basketball they play and how the team gels together. The Spartans are scary, no question about that!
#2 Fargo Davies
DNP this week but they scrimmaged Devils Lake on Saturday
Next Up: Moorhead at home on Tuesday 12/5
PHD is interested to see how sharp Mason Klabo Mason Klabo 6'2" | PG Fargo Davies | 2025 State #240 Nation ND looks. It sounds like he is cleared to play and ready to roll. I’m looking forward to seeing how Alpha Camara Alpha Camara 6'5" | SF Fargo Davies | 2024 State ND and Peter Havelka Peter Havelka 6'6" | PF Fargo Davies | 2024 State ND look against the Spuds. How deep will the Davies bench go? Does Daniel Yorke Daniel Yorke 6'1" | SG Fargo Davies | 2024 State ND look to score from beyond the arc or is it all going to the rim? How much does Cameron Miller Cameron Miller 6'1" | PG Fargo Davies | 2026 State ND play? Will Davies pick up and press most of the game?
#3 Minot
2-0 over the EDC. The Magi dismantled the Packers on Friday and held on to win by 3 at Sheyenne.
Next Up: Grand Forks Red River at home on Tuesday 12/5
I could easily argue that Minot should be moved up to #1 after the weekend. However, I do not think it is fair to punish an idle team and the other team also went 2-0 in close games. I was highly impressed with Minot’s ball movement, the amount of reversals that they got, and how they executed in transition. They looked like a well-oiled machine at times on Saturday and we are only 3 days into December! I was also a bit surprised with how long Minot was. They started 6’2″, 6’3″, 6’5″, 6’5″, and 6’7″ with Winczewski, Schell, Conklin, Schaeffer, and Bedell. They also bring in 6’6″ off the bench. Aric Winczewski Aric Winczewski 6'2" | CG Minot | 2025 State ND was impressive on Saturday and Logan Conklin Logan Conklin 6'5" | SF Minot | 2024 ND was sensational as an all-around playmaker. The Magicians play hard, intense, smart, and disciplined basketball. Minot is going to win a ton of games this season.
#4 Grand Forks Central
Saturday they beat Minot North (JV) 107-63
Next Up: At Dickson on Friday 12/8
The Knights had their way and busted the century mark against Minot North. Central hits the road this coming weekend and they head west. Friday they have Dickinson and Saturday they hit up Bismarck St. Mary’s. Central should come away with two wins, but who knows how they will come out and play after that long on the road. Grand Forks to Dickinson is just over a 5-hour drive! Will Erick Paye Erick Paye 6'5" | PF Grand Forks Central | 2024 ND feast this coming weekend against the Midgets and Saints? How do Cole Wilber Cole Wilber 5'10" | CG Grand Forks Central | 2025 State ND and Ross Wilber Ross Wilber 5'10" | CG Grand Forks Central | 2024 State ND perform? I am interested to see how the Knights defense looks, can they can hold down the WDA teams and come away with two convincing wins?
#5 West Fargo Sheyenne
Friday the Mustangs picked up a nice win over Bismarck. Saturday they battled back to make things interesting against an excellent Minot team.
Next Up: West Fargo at home on Tuesday 12/5
It was a great opening weekend for the Mustangs. Tommy Ahneman Tommy Ahneman 6'11" | PF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2025 State #315 Nation ND was almost unstoppable on Friday night and John Angau John Angau 6'4" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 State ND was on fire Saturday. Sheyenne showed heart/grit/fight against Minot. They could have easily given up but they battled back, hit shots, and showed that they are the real deal. Sheyenne is very long with Noah Olson Noah Olson 6'2" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 State ND , Caleb Duerr Caleb Duerr 6'4" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 ND , John Angau John Angau 6'4" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 State ND , and Tommy Ahneman Tommy Ahneman 6'11" | PF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2025 State #315 Nation ND on the floor. They could be gigantic if they wanted to put Turo Moni Turo Moni 6'8" | PF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 State ND on the floor as well. The Mustangs should take care of business against the Packers on Tuesday but anything can happen in rivalry games. Do the Mustangs stay hot and shine vs the Pack? Who solidifies themself as the PG or fills in as the 5th guy that tops off the best lineup for Sheyenne? Only time will tell. Either way, PHD is high on the horses!
