Recruiting Report: Cadyn Schwabe (2019)
Five-foot-10 three sport athlete Cadyn Schwabe produces year round. Football, baseball, and basketball Cadyn leads Thompson High to wins.
“My summer was a lot of baseball,” Cadyn said with a laugh. “I did get to go down to the cities one weekend and played with the North Dakota Phenom which was very fun! Our team also did a few team camps. As a team, I feel like we developed some chemistry over the camps.”
On a talented Thompson squad Schwabe scored 13.5 points a game with 4.4assists and 2.3 steals as only a sophomore. During the 16-17 season he shot 56 percent from the floor and 40 plus percent from the arc.
Naturally as an all around athlete Cadyn wants to improve everywhere he can.
“I believe that I personally just need to improve every aspect of the game, especially ball handling,” Schwabe explained. “For overall athletics, one can always get better by weight lifting, speed drills, etc.
“Also as a basketball team, I believe it is very important to form a team bond and chemistry and make sure all guys are on the same page going in, so I think that has been and will continue to be a focus.”
Thompson lost quality talent to graduation but with Schabwe back playmaking in the backcourt they will still be among the best in Class B.
“The group of guys we have coming back has been playing together for a while now. That being said, we did lose three seniors, two of them being starters. Last year we were a game away from the state tournament, so I think our goal is just to compete at a high level and get right back in that position again.”
Schwabe is such a talent that he will play college athletics in something. There are basketball schools calling already.
“I have heard a little bit from Jamestown and Lake Region State,” Cadyn said. “I was scheduled to go to a couple camps at Jamestown but they ended up being the same day as baseball.”
Schwabe has been influenced by talents from many different areas of basketball.
“One guy who has influenced my game is former Mayville State guard Jamal Branco,” Schwabe said. “I met him at a camp and then he started coming to some of our games and gave me some thinks to work on.
“Some of my favorite players are Tyus Jones (big Duke fan) and Steph Curry. Also I’m a big fan of Glynn Watson Jr of Nebraska.”
Cadyn is currently the quarterback of his football team (they are 1-1 and he’s thrown for three touchdowns) plus he hit a ridiculous .525 on the baseball diamond where he has been contributing on varsity since he was in 8th grade.
