Weekly Dish: Two Commits, 2019 Offers, and More
This time of the year is one that is always an interesting one. There are a lot of things going on but typically there isn’t much basketball being played. College coaches are back in their offices and trying to make key decisions and players are back in their home gyms getting better but things are still happening. With each week this fall, we are going to take a look at the latest happenings in the state.
– DeAngelo Ware transferring back to Evansville Bosse (IN) from Henderson County (KY). The tall guard was once here in Indiana playing at Evansville Harrison but for his senior season he will be at a new program in Bosse.
– Cortney Shorter, a 6’3 guard from Fort Wayne South (IN) has picked up his second offer in as many weeks as Marian University has joined Northwest Ohio in offering the 2018 prospect. Shorter should be set for a big season with a slightly revamped South Side program.
– Spencer Piercefield, a 6’0 guard from Center Grove (IN) has picked up an offer from Indiana Wesleyan. They join Goshen College as the other program that has offered the 2019 prospect. He’s had a great summer and now been an early offer candidate because of his play.
– Walter Ellis has two bits of news in the last week as he has transferred to play his final year of high school basketball at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. Also, he told us that he will take an official visit to UNC-Greensboro that will end today. He will have four more official visits in his pocket to take if he chooses to.
– Anthony Hopkins, a 6’4 wing from Indianapolis Howe (IN) has committed to New Orleans. He also had offers at one point from Florida Southern and Ball State but chose to go down south. New Orleans has a ton of Indiana connections on their coaching staff.
– Huntington University held their Fall Elite Camp this past weekend and from that they offered a ton of prospects in the 2018 and 2019 classes from Indiana. From 2018, they offered Spencer Ballinger (Oak Hill), Jeff Reynolds (Greenwood), Logan Smith (Mt. Vernon-Fortville) and Lucas Lehrman (Bishop Dwenger). From 2019 they offered local standout Sawyer Stoltz (Huntington North).
– Jalen Windham, a 6’5 wing from Ben Davis (IN), has picked up an offer from Toledo. Jalen already holds an offer from IUPUI and his interest has been picking up across the board. The 2019 prospect should be a key figure for returning State Champ Ben Davis.
– Robert Phinisee, a 6’1 point guard from McCutcheon (IN) has committed to Indiana. Phinisee had become one of the best players in the state over the last few years and was picking between Ohio State, Purdue, Butler, and Virginia but chose to stay instate with the Hoosiers.
