Recruiting Report: Damian Chong-Qui (2016)

After a strong sophomore season as the starting point guard at McDonogh, and a busy offseason playing with Chick Webb and Baltimore’s Finest, Damian Chong-Qui has seen some mild Division I interest start to come his way. “I have heard from Navy, Longwood University, and I’ve seen George Mason show up to a couple of my games,” said the 5-foot-7 point guard. “I went to a team camp at Navy, and Longwood came and watched me workout, and they called me the day after workout and reached out to me. I’ve also gotten some letters from American.” The talented 2017 started his 16U season with Chick Webb and recently has started playing with Baltimore’s Finest in some late summer tournaments. He says his leadership was something he did best this offseason. “I led my team better, I really try and work on being a leader just because I’m not the tallest person. I also shot the ball a little better this summer, that’s something I’ve been working on,” said Chong-Qui. “I like to get all my players involved, and when I need to score, I can score. I just do whatever is best for the team to help us win. I still need to work on my range, and I need to get stronger. After averaging 7.6 points and 4.2 assists per game last season as a sophomore, Chong-Qui is ready to take the next step as he heads into his upperclassmen years. “This year I’m going to have to be more of a scorer and a playmaker and make more things happen this year, me and Bruce Moore both,” said Chong-qui. “Just stepping up as much as possible, and making plays.”
