Continue ReadingJL3 is making their debut on the Prep Hoops Next circuit this upcoming weekend in Dallas at The Tuneup and they are expected to have a lot of good talent from across the state of Texas. PHN was able to catch up with Brian Scott who is one of the coaches for their 7th grade teams to learn more about his program and some players we need to follow in Dallas this weekend.
“JL3 has been in existence for quite some time under John Lucas. It was not until 2-3 years ago when we expanded into the middle school division. We have three 8th grade teams, three 7th grade teams and four 6th grade teams. For my 7th grade team we have players from all over Texas.”
Scott and his JL3 organization are excited to go up against some other top competition that PHN has been able to bring in for The Tuneup.
“We are looking to grow but of course be able to advance against some good heat. We have heard great things about Prep Hoops so we are definitely excited to play in our first tournament with you guys so we are coming into it with some expectations that we will be playing against some high level competition.”
In order to get past that competition, Scott gave a preview of a few players his team will rely on heavily.
Baylor Preston: “Preston is a real good kid that is a supreme athlete. He is high energy from start to finish and is currently averaging a double double every game while playing the combo guard position. He can crash the boards hard and brings high intensity every game.”
Brian Scott II: “He plays the 4 and 5 for us but primarily the five. He is pretty agile for the five position and can shoot the ball really well. He is a pure lefty but he is another guy for us that is averaging a double double. He crashes the boards and is a guy that can play the perimeter as well.”
Tyler Josea: “Right now Tyler plays the 3 and the four but we are developing him into a 2 guard. He is a really good kid that is strong, athletic, runs the floor well and competes at a high level. This kid can jump through the roof and is bound to give our team 8-9 rebounds per game. Offensively he is a really good slasher that can shoot the ball really well from the outside but really slashes the ball well at high intensity, crashes the boards and gets those trash points.”
Larry Wright: Wright is our point guard with tremendous ball handling and court awareness.”
Brian explained how these guys are the meat and bones of his team so he is expecting big things from them this weekend.
“We look forward to all these guys putting up what they put up every game and it is critical and important to the team to have these guys on point and have them bring what they bring day in and day out.”
