It is starting to feel like fall and that means that basketball is right around the corner! North Dakota high school basketball will have 3 Classes for the first time in history. See below for stats and numbers on the Top Returning Rebounders in AA.

AA Teams: Fargo Davies, Fargo North, Fargo South, Grand Forks Central, Grand Forks Red River, Shanley, West Fargo, West Fargo Horace, West Fargo Sheyenne, Bismarck Century, Bismarck, Bismarck Legacy, St. Mary's, Dickinson, Jamestown, Mandan, Minot, Williston.

A Teams: Central Cass, Kindred, Lisbon, Northern Cass, Oak Grove, Valley City, Wahpeton, Carrington, Devils Lake, Four Winds/Minnewaukan, Grafton, Hillsboro/Central Valley, Thompson, Bottineau, Des Lacs-Burlington, Dunseith, Nedrose, New Town, Rugby, South Prairie-Max, Stanley, Turtle Mountain, Beulah, Dickinson Trinity, Hazen, Kildeer, Shiloh Christian, Standing Rock, Watford City.

The topic of this article is REBOUNDING. What makes a good rebounder?

An above-average rebounder in basketball possesses a combination of athleticism, physical attributes, instincts, anticipation, skills, and basketball IQ. Rebounding is a vital part of the game. Rebounding leads to extra possessions, second-chance points, and it limits the opposing team's scoring opportunities. If you want to have a top-notch transition game, you have to be a good defensive-rebounding team. Every coach loves hard-working rebounders, if you want more playing time, get after the boards! Here are some thoughts on what makes a productive rebounder:

Positioning: A strong rebounder understands where to position themselves on the court to have the best chance at grabbing a rebound. This includes boxing out opponents and maintaining good spacing in relation to the basket. The top guys seem to know where the ball is going and they know how to fight and manipulate their opponent so they can get into the correct spot on the floor. Being strong, quick, tough, and sneaky helps a player get favorable positioning. Plain old hard work and grit are also vital when it comes to positioning.

Anticipation: The best rebounders have a knack for reading the trajectory of the ball off the rim or backboard. They can anticipate where the ball will bounce and react quickly to get to the right spot. They know if the ball will come short, go long, or bounce left or right.

Timing: Timing is crucial for gobbling up rebounds, especially on the offensive end. The best rebounders know when to sky up to snatch the ball at its highest point, tip it or tap it to a teammate.

Physicality: Rebounding requires physicality, toughness, and grit. Productive rebounders are not afraid to mix it up in the paint, fight for position, and use their body to create space. They do not shy away from contact!

Strength and Vertical Leap: Physical attributes like strength and a high vertical leap can be advantageous for getting higher off the ground and for outmuscling opponents for rebounds. Being a better athlete than your opponent always helps!

Basketball IQ: Understanding the game situation and knowing when to crash the boards or prioritize defensive positioning is important. Knowing time and score is always important. Good rebounders also know how to read the flow of the game and make adjustments accordingly.

Effort and Hustle: Rebounding often comes down to effort. Players who are relentless in their pursuit of the ball are more likely to be successful on the boards.

Boxing Out/Checking Out: A fundamental skill for rebounders is boxing out opponents. This involves using your body to shield your opponent away from the basket, allowing you to get better positioning for the rebound. The best rebounders can hold their opponent on their back and then read and react to the ball as it comes off the rim.

Persistence: Great rebounders do not give up on plays and they refuse to be boxed out. Even if they miss the initial attempt at a rebound, they continue to pursue the ball and make second and third efforts. Persistence pays off!

The best rebounders combine physical attributes, skills, and mental acumen to consistently secure rebounds for their team. If you want to be a chairman of the boards, you need a mix of athleticism, effort, and toughness, and clever instincts.

With that being said, let's check out the numbers and the Top Rebounders!

<a
