2026 Rankings: Underrated Guards

I predict that the Wisconsin Lutheran shooting guard will turn heads this high school season. Zens has great positional size and is very gifted as a scorer. He knifes his way into the paint and converts on difficult layups. Zens has a lot of upside due to his pure athleticism. For his size, the SG moves well and is very mobile. College coaches need to keep an eye on Zens this winter. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1756989' first='Isaiah' last='Oliver'] -- SG -- Middleton</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I was able to see Oliver compete at a Prep Hoops camp in the spring. Playing against top-tier competition, the shooting guard was electric. I thought that Oliver displayed elite passing and ball-handling abilities. In the open court, Oliver makes quick decisions and often keeps opposing defenders on their back foot. The Middleton SG is also coming off of a great AAU season. I look forward to watching the talented guard compete in the fall. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1781157' first='Rashad' last='Davis'] -- PG -- Nicolet</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I think that Davis is going to be a really good player in Wisconsin for years to come. The Nicolet point guard is a phenomenal floor general. Even though he is still young in his basketball career, Davis has the IQ of a much older prospect. He plays with good pace, as he is always changing speeds and keeping his defenders off balance. Davis is also a slick passer and facilitator. He has a great sense of what his team needs. He feeds teammates when necessary and scores when required. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1561874' first='Nathan' last='Ramus'] -- PG -- Appleton North </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ramus made a name for himself at Wisconsin's Freshman Showcase last summer. The Appleton North point guard showed off his versatile and advanced scoring ability. Ramus uses his dribble to freeze defenders and create separation. Once at the rim, Ramus is a crafty finisher. He spins the ball at unique angles, often making jaw-dropping layups. Not only is Ramus an elite slasher, but the PG also proved himself as a perimeter shooting threat. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1561961' first='Deandre' last='Haynes'] -- PG -- Pius Xi</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Haynes won't be on the watchlist for too long. By the end of the high school season, the Pius XI point guard will likely earn a high-ranking spot. The shifty PG is a speedy player who uses his quickness to penetrate the lane and collapse opposing defenses. Bigger defenders have no chance of matching up with Haynes in the open floor. Haynes is simply too quick and skilled. I am really excited to watch Haynes this season. He is certainly poised to impress. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1561902' first='Mason' last='Brone'] -- PG -- Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>You don't see many freshman point guards start at the varsity level. Yet this was the case for Brone last season. Playing for G-E-T, the PG was able to carve out a significant role for himself. He is a good ball handler, passer, and scorer. Last winter, Brone proved that he can consistently make winning plays. Now, he will look to take his game to another level. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
