Jayhawk Summer Finale Recap (Class of 2019 Point Guards/Combo Guards)
Here is a look at some of the top Missouri 2019 point and combo guards from last weekend’s Jayhawk Summer Finale in Overland Park, KS.
Lamel Robinson 5’10” KC Run GMC: A quick and tough point guard who helped lead his team to the 16U championship. He is capable of playing both backcourt positions because of his ability to get buckets. He has an explosive first step to get to the basket off the dribble and he compliments it with a nice perimeter jumper. He is also lightning quick in the transition game.
Yuri Collins 5’11” Brad Beal Elite: A tough pass-first point guard who was at his best at the end of close games when he really locked in and made big plays for his team, whether it was a key bucket of a pass to a teammate. His dribble penetration and passing set up a couple of last second buckets for his teammates. He is strong with the ball and he makes everyone better.
Javaunte Hawkins 5’10” Team Rush: A solid young point guard who has the ability to make shots in a variety of ways. He showcased some good 3-point shooting, but he also could hit you with the one dribble move to set up a fine mid-range jumper. He has pretty good quickness and nice passing skills.
Derez Tipler 5’10” SEMO Bulls: A tough, young point guard who combines quickness and strength to make things happen on the court. He is a fearless performer with the capability of beating defenders off the dribble and getting into the lane to make plays. He is also a good enough 3-point shooter to keep defenses honest.
Desi Williams 5’10” KC Run GMC: An excellent pass-first point guard who plays the role of the floor general of a loaded 16U team with a lot of offensive weapons. He does a good job of facilitating the offense and playing good pressure defense on the ball. He has the ability to score, but he sacrifices a lot of his offense for the good of this championship team.
Glen McClintock 6’0″ Team Rush: A solid all-around guard who is comfortable at the point of off the ball where he can unleash his potent jumper. In the first game against KC Run GMC, he unleashed an impressive offensive rift where he knocked down four consecutive jumpers, either from 3-point distance or the mid-range. He handles the ball well and plays with a lot of savvy.
