Jayhawk Summer Finale Recap (Class of 2020 Forwards/Posts)
Here is a look at some of the top Missouri Class of 2020 forwards and posts from last weekend’s Jayhawk Summer Finale in Overland Park, KS.
Omar Stanley 6’6″ NdaGym: A skilled two-way big with a very substantial upside who was very impressive in the game I watched against Gateway. His strength is rebounding and shot blocking as he used his size and length to do both very effectively. He scored on many offensive rebounds. As the game went on, he started to showcase his overall skill set as he handled the basketball and mad a couple of 3-pointers.
Davion Bradford 6’10” Brad Beal Elite: A young post player who is gradually developing into a big factor. He played both at the 15U and 16U level over the weekend. His height and big body was a big presence in the paint with his shot blocking and rebounding. His offensive game is still a work in progress, but he made a very difficult spin move through traffic for a bucket look easy in BBE’s win over Team Thad look easy. He will develop into one of the top prospects in the class.
Ethan Kilgore 6’6″ KC Run GMC: A versatile combo forward who helped lead KC Run GMC to the 15U championship game. Had one big game in which he scored 31 points in bracket play. He ran the court hard and scored on several transition layups as he outhustled opposing bigs down the court. He has a nice shooting touch around the basket, but he can also step out and be a reliable perimeter shooter. He moves well without the ball and can pass as well.
Devion Harris 6’6″ Brad Beal Elite: A long and lanky post who operates well from 15 feet and in. He showcased some very good moves around the basket as he used his quickness and good footwork. He was very active around the basket as he grabbed rebounds and blocked shots. He is still young and still in the developmental stage, but his future is bright because his skill set is pretty good and has a high motor.
Tanner Thouvenot 6’8″ MO Team Carroll: A big strong post player who stepped up with one of the his best efforts in bracket play against Team Thad. He scored 18 points and really was a dominant force around the basket. He established good position and scored on turnaround jumpers and jump hooks around the basket. He played with a lot more confidence on offense at the Jayhawk.
Daniel Abreau 6’4″ MBA Flight: A young combo forward who was an energizer bunny all weekend as he was all over the court and always around the ball. He was constantly moving without the ball as he cut hard to the basket for buckets and set good screens to set up teammates. He crashed the offensive boards to get more buckets and hustled up and down the court for transition layups. He was instrumental in helping his team to the Final Four on the 15U tournament.
Ryan Kalkbrenner 6’8″ Gateway: A capable young post with a lot of size and plenty of potential. He puts his length to good use on the defensive end with his ability to block and alter a lot of shots. He has a nice touch around the basket, but he is effective facing the hoop to knock down a 12 to 15 footer. He will become more of a force as he adds physical strength.
