Cadillac Summer Shootout: Day 1 Standouts

For a few years running. The Cadillac basketball program has put on one of the better non-campus team camps in Northern Michigan. Often bringing teams from outside of region to play some of the better teams in Northern Michigan.   Due to some extensive off season school construction projects. This year iteration is a little smaller than normal. However still producing a competitive and deep field. Following are five players that caught my attention from day 1 action.   [player_tooltip player_id='1434245' first='Charlie' last='Howell'] 6-5 2024 Cadillac The most high profile player in the field this year belonged to the host school. Did not take long to see why. Was aggressive and assertive in a matchup against Big North conference rival Traverse City West. With his size has always been an effective driver and finisher. When he is hitting from the perimeter like he was Tuesday. There is not much defenses can do. Coming off a strong spring with Parallel 45. It's possible his recruitment could really heat up in the next few weeks.   [player_tooltip player_id='1372969' first='Lincoln' last='Lockhart'] 6-0 2025 Traverse City West (pictured) While his team struggled against a very good Cadillac team (see above) Lockhart showed the skill set that has helped him have an outstanding spring with the West Michigan Lakers. Is an excellent ball handler who gets to his spots easily on the perimeter. Good shooter with an efficient and easy release from beyond the arc. Not the biggest prospect. But drives to the basket without fear and doesn't seem to mind contact. Should be primed to take more of a featured role as a junior. Was more of a table setting point guard as a sophomore.   [player_tooltip player_id='2348893' first='Lincoln' last='Hicks'] 6-0 2024 Manton From one Lincoln to another. Hicks had a nice night for a Manton program going through a bit of a rebuilding process. If this player can find a spot at the next level. It will be because of his burst and athleticism. Showed it off with a huge transition block against Hemlock. Went up and pinned a lay up against the glass at the square. Not many point guards can do that. Got his team out in transition quickly with excellent look ahead passing. Uses his athleticism to attack the rim offensively. However is also good at dump off passing off of penetration.   Carter Gensch 6-4 2024 Hemlock Gensch appears to settling in for a big senior season. Has grown nicely into his 6-4 frame. Not the gangly timid player from a few summers ago. Is now a smooth, confident and patient scorer. Coming off an outstanding spring with REAL Basketball on the Prep Hoops Circuit. While he is still quite slender. Had added considerable strength to his frame. However hasn't lost the perimeter skills in the process. Is definitely a guard long term. Has good ball handling ability and text book jump shot. Could be real sleeper from the Saginaw area.   Carter Kerby 5-11 2025 Frankfort We just went with two Lincoln's in a row. Now we get two Carter's. Kerby is a small town player with a game that would fit in at any playground. Simply put is one of the creative ball handlers you will see anywhere. Put defenders on skates at times on Tuesday. The outside shot didn't seem to be falling. When it is he can be especially difficult to guard. The ball handling ability gives him a particularly potent step back. Has some momentum right now. Coming off of leading the Panthers to the Breslin Center. Followed by a spring of testing himself regionally with UTS Elite. Could be ready for breakout junior campaign.
