Now let's look at the second 5 of the 10 guards added to the Prep Hoops 2024 Class Rankings:

73 – [player_tooltip player_id='1953946' first='Manny' last='Gonzalez'] 5-foot-9 point guard, 2024, Goodland:

Gonzalez has built a reputation in club action as a terrorizing defender. This year he really put it together as lights-out shooter and attacking ball handler. He earned honorable mention from KSHSAA by helping lead Goodland to a fine season with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals a game. The junior hit 40% from deep.

77 – [player_tooltip player_id='1953947' first='Brock' last='Keith'], 5-foot-10 combo guard, 2024, Meade:

Keith was highly decorated in the 2A class with second team honors from Sports in Kansas and third team from the Wichita Eagle. He scored double figures in every game last season and finished with an impressive stat line: 18.5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.5 steals. He shot an efficient 56% from the field.

78 – [player_tooltip player_id='1953948' first='Trent' last='Long'], 5-foot-10 combo guard, 2024, Clifton-Clyde:

Like Keith, Long earned a lot of accolades as a junior, doing it for a team that was ranked near the top of 1A Div. I and lost just three games all season. He earned first team recognition from Sports in Kansas and second team from the other main publications. Long averaged 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals as a junior.

80 – [player_tooltip player_id='1953952' first='Kreighton' last='Kanitz'], 6-foot-2 shooting guard, 2024, McPherson:

The McPherson guards that blew up as sophomores continue to earn respect. [player_tooltip player_id='1461339' first='Cory' last='Muehler'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1436793' first='Kyden' last='Thompson'] are two of the top ranked guards in the 2024 class. Now add Kanitz to the list. He was a key component of the 2021-2022 team that finished third in 4A. This year, he helped the Bullpups to the state title game providing, physical play, tough defense and outside shooting. He averaged 9 points per game as a junior.

82 – [player_tooltip player_id='1300870' first='Isaiah' last='Lyons'], 5-foot-10 point guard, 2024, Topeka High:

Lyons did a great job helping a rebuilding Trojans team stay competitive. He is a leader and a solid player who gives great effort at all times. He is an athletic playmaker at the point or on the wing, slashing and attacking defenses and playing pesky defense. The junior earned all-Centennial League and honorable mention in 6A from the Wichita Eagle averaged 15 points, hitting 35% from deep and a cool 81% from the line. He also dealt out 2 assists.
