Here are the first 5 of the 10 new guards added to the Prep Hoops 2024 Class Rankings:
48 – Dasean Lewis Dasean Lewis 5'10" | PG Hugoton | 2024 State KS , 5-foot-10 point guard, 2024, Hugoton (pictured):
We’ve been admiring Lewis on the club circuit for a couple of years. It was just a matter of him finally finding his opportunity on the varsity level. After a good sophomore season, Lewis came into his own with 9 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists for a deep Hugoton team with a couple of senior leaders. But more than anything, Lewis finds his name on this list for his play at the state tournament. He hit 9-14 attempts and scored 36 points in the three-game run to the state title. He earned second team 4A honors from Sports in Kansas and honorable mention from KSHSAA.
53 – Xiomar Hernandez Xiomar Hernandez 6'0" | SG Atchison | 2024 State KS , 6-foot shooting guard, 2024, Atchison:
Atchison had a really fine season, advancing to the state tournament. They got outstanding contributions from several players, but the leader was Hernandez. The junior earned third team 4A from KSHSAA and honorable mention from other publications. He led the Phoenix with 12 points per game.
54 – J’Veann Williams J’Veann Williams 6'2" | SG KC Washington | 2024 State KS , 6-2 shooting guard, 2024, KC Washington:
A guard who has slipped under the radar for a while, Williams is a long slasher who can get to the goal and finish. He’s a slick and creative ball handler who never seems at a loss for creating his own shot. He earned honorable mention from KSHSAA and first team from the Meadowlark League.
71 – Jacob Fritz Jacob Fritz 6'3" | CG Blue Valley Northwest | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-3 combo guard, 2024, Blue Valley Northwest:
As a sophomore, Fritz was an occasional sub on the 2021-2022 Huskies team that finished second at 6A state. He took that experience and became an integral member of this year’s state champs. He was good all season – 8 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. But those numbers didn’t tell you what he meant to the team. That was evident on the biggest stage, when Fritz flashed some serious athleticism against the best opposition in the state. In title game He hit 5-11 from the field, connected on 5-6 clutch free throws, and finished with 16 points.
72 – Jack Weimer Jack Weimer 5'9" | CG Hays | 2024 State KS , 5-foot-9 combo guard, 2024, Hays:
Like Fritz, Weimer seized the opportunity to play a bigger role after a strong class of seniors graduated. The junior provided the Indians with a scoring punch it needed following graduation, with three games of 20-plus points. He’s dangerous from deep, a fierce defender and solid distributor and playmaker. Weimer averaged 12 points and 3 assists en route to second team honors from Sports in Kansas and honorable mention from KSHSAA and the KBCA.
