Updated 2024 Rankings: Wings (5-1)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We recently updated our class of 2024 rankings in the state of Virginia, with a lot of new faces and movement throughout the rankings. The rankings consist of 155 prospects, making it the most in depth rankings in the state.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We will take a look at the rankings by position over the next few days. Here's a look at the top 5 shooting guards and small forwards in the junior class.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>5) [player_tooltip player_id='1403917' first='Troy' last='McKoy'] | 6'5” SG | Massanutten (#9 Overall)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1785453,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/02/McKoy-Troy-EPL.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/02/McKoy-Troy-EPL.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1785453" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>McKoy is, in my opinion, the most under recruited player in the country, as he was one of the top players in post grad basketball last year helping lead Massanutten to the National Prep Championships despite being just a junior. The 6'5” two guard checks a lot of boxes for the next level as he has a strong frame, all-around skillset and he's a tough nosed competitor who is productive across the board. He gets downhill off the bounce where he draws contact to get to the line and can finish through contact, he is a knock down shooter from deep off the catch, he can create shots off the bounce from multiple levels and he is an excellent rebounder and defender too. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>4) [player_tooltip player_id='1948389' first='AJ' last='Swinton'] | 6'7” SF | Bishop O'Connell (#6 Overall)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1652658,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/11/IMG_5878.jpeg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/11/IMG_5878.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1652658" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The former DeMatha wing comes back to the DMV after spending last year split between Oak Hill and Sierra Canyon (CA), and he will join an already super talented O'Connell team that should compete for a WCAC championship this year. Swinton has as high an upside of anyone on this list, as the 6'7” wing has prototypical size on the perimeter and is a big time athlete who can make plays others can't. He is dynamic in transition and plays well above the rim, he can knock down shots when he's left open and handles on the perimeter, he's a good rebounder and has tons of upside on the defensive end. He was originally committed to Virginia Tech but reopened his recruitment before the AAU season started.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>3) [player_tooltip player_id='1748167' first='Micah' last='Robinson'] | 6'7” SF | Oak Hill Academy (#4 Overall)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1652656,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/11/IMG_5886.jpeg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/11/IMG_5886.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1652656" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Texas native was one of the top players in the NIBC this past season, and he's a nationally renowned prospect who is being recruited at the highest of levels. The 6'7” wing is a versatile player who can play and guard multiple positions, can play on or off the ball and is productive across the board in winning ways. He has a good frame and long arms that allows him to rebound and challenge shots, he's a natural athlete who gets out in transition and is a good finisher above the rim, he can make shots from multiple levels and he's able to use his size to rise over defenders and knock down tough shots. He's being recruited by dozens of high majors, and is currently ranked as the #133 prospect in the country by 247.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2) [player_tooltip player_id='1259618' first='Isaiah' last='Abraham'] | 6'6” SG | Paul VI (#3 Overall)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1819291,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/02/unnamed-15.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/02/unnamed-15.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1819291" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Abraham is part of a PVI team that dominates the top 10 of our rankings, as they were one of the top teams in the country and return 7 of their top 8 players. Throughout the season, Abraham became more comfortable with his role on this team, becoming more productive and effective while showcasing his elite athleticism and budding skillset that makes him one of the top prospects in the country. The 6'6” wing looks the part with a great frame and he's a super athlete who can play well above the rim, he can work off the bounce where he can get downhill or create space, he's improved a lot over the past few years in his perimeter jumper and he has all the tools to be a lock down defender at the next level. He's being recruited by a lot of high major schools, and is currently the #102 ranked prospect in the country by 247.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>1)[player_tooltip player_id='1259620' first='Darren' last='Harris'] | 6'6” SF | Paul VI (#2 Overall)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1344039,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2021/12/Harris-Darren.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2021/12/Harris-Darren.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1344039" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Harris has been our #1 ranked prospect since we started our 2024 rankings, and while he drops to #2 as another PVI player takes over the top spot it had nothing to do with his play this season. The 6'6” wing was a big reason for PVI being one of the top teams in the country, and he's widely considered one of the top shooters in the country with his mix of size and his ability to light it up from deep in bunches. He has fantastic mechanics and a lightning quick release with deep range and the ability to set his feet quickly, he moves well off the ball and reads defenders well off the screens and he has rounded his game out as he's sured up his body and becoming a much more athletic finisher when he gets downhill. He's currently the #44 ranked prospect in the country by 247 and is already committed to Duke.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
