Prospect Watch: Cade Cummings (2018)
Cade Cummings spent much of his winter dealing with an injury but he’s a name that people should watch for during the 2017-18 season.
“Unfortunately, this winter I was out for most of the season with a shoulder injury,” Cade told PHD. “With the small amount of time that I was able to play I learned that at each level the intensity of play increases and I’ll have to practice just as fast and hard as I can to be able to compete at those levels.”
Despite being sidelined Cummings was still able to support his Watertown High School team who put things together after a rough start to have a near .500 year.
”I will take away great and hilarious memories with some amazing teammates from that last season too.”
Now that his shoulder is heeled Cade is in the gym working to get better for the winter year.
“I’ve been working hard on my outside shot to compliment my finishing at the hoop,” Cade said. “My high school coaches and my summer coach have been great with helping me during this too.”
Cade is also getting back on the court playing with the Dakota Niners.
“These events have challenged me to be more aggressive on offense and to be more of a leader within my team. As I’ve gotten older the level of play has gotten more physical so AAU has helped me to become more physical.”
At 6-feet tall and 170 pounds Cummings is also a wideout and defensive back on the football field. As a constant competitor Cade wants to play a sport in college.
“I would love having the privilege of playing college basketball,” Cade said. “I’ve gone to a few camps and gotten a few texts from coaches showing minor interest.
“I’ve also gotten some looks for football for wide receiver, but I think I’d rather play basketball in college if I was given the right opportunity.”
Cade has his goal set of what he wants to accomplish.
“I want to become better as a player, good enough to play college basketball, and win a state championship with Watertown,”
