Expert Analysis
Jay Anderson | Prep Hoops Scout
Wheeler led by example with his ability to knock down shots at range and make crafty finishes around the rim with his quickness. He’s a name that’s quietly grown on the PH stage over the past few months of evaluations and really stepped up his game to lead Team 8 at the Top 250 Expo. He’s got a confidence that’s hard to find in most guards and showed he could score in a variety of ways with the ball in his hands. As he learns to find ways to keep others involved just as much as his ability to score, look for DII and DIII programs to come his way. He’ll be at Atkins High this year under new head coach Kishon Bishop.

Strengths Of His Game:
Playmaking – You can give Wheeler the ball and let him go to work and make something happen. He’s creative and can pressure D.
Decision making – Wheeler can be trusted to get the ball where it needs to go and to choose the right path or right way to get it there.
Shooting – Wheeler has a nice jumper in his arsenal and he can force defenders to pick him up early and not allow him to get a clean look at the rim.
Ball control – Wheeler plays under control with the ball in his hands and has the ability to pretty much do with it as he wants. He does a nice job protecting the ball on the bounce.
Quick speed – Wheeler has nice straight line speed that can really put pressure on his defenders in the open floor. He has blow by speed with the ball and builds his speed very quickly.
Driving ability – We’ve talked about his speed and handles, but Wheeler also has some shiftiness with good hip movement. This combination of skills makes him adept at putting the ball on the floor and taking it to the rim.
Basketball Goals:
Wheeler definitely has goals in the game of basketball. He wants to take his talents as far as he can and he wants to represent his home state. “My goal is to play at the next level of basketball any division and showcase my talents as a small guard from NC” said Wheeler.
