We previously looked at the All-Region Teams for 1 and 2. Region 3 is unique as they do not have an All-Region Team. They only have All-District Teams, District 5 and District 6. In this article, we are looking at the 10 players who were selected to the All-District 5 Team.

Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier won the District 5 Championship over Ellendale by a score of 56-53. The Rebels hit a last-second triple to win the game.

District 5 Teams

Barnes County North

Carrington

Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier

Ellendale

Griggs-Midkota

LaMoure-Litchville/Marion

Oakes

All-District 5

[player_tooltip player_id='1135860' first='Riley' last='Thorpe'] (2023) |6'1 G| Ellendale

He is a deadly 3-point catch-n-shoot player. Thorpe is a deadeye shooter that sets his feet quickly & seamlessly. Riley lets it fly with a hair trigger and he does not need much room to get his shot off. He has a buttery smooth release. Riley is also an elusive slasher that does a good job of kicking out to shooters that are spotting up.

[player_tooltip player_id='1749953' first='Anton' last='Geller'] (2024) |6'1 SF| Ellendale

He has big scoring ability. Geller gets up the court in a hurry, scores well in transition, and will make the extra pass. I have watched Geller make many unselfish passes and he is more skilled than I thought. He can make 1-handed bounce passes when attacking the hoop at full speed. Anton can also drill stepback 3-pointers in impressive fashion. On defense, Anton's quick hands and anticipation create turnovers. He will also block shots. Anton is a long and energetic athlete.

[player_tooltip player_id='1050258' first='Hudson' last='Schmitz'] (2023) |6'2 SF| Carrington

He is a well-put-together athlete. Hudson is strong and he protected the paint for the Cardinals. He can spread the floor for triples and score physically in the lane. Hudson does not avoid contact. He is also good about sharing the rock, Schmitz will draw attention in the paint and then kick out to shooters on the wing.

[player_tooltip player_id='1656547' first='Jack' last='Erickson'] (2023) |6'1 G| Carrington

He wears the Jordan 11's, so Erickson should make the team on that alone! Jack plays hard and makes hustle plays. Tips passes, gets deflections, alters/blocks shots, and saves the ball from going out of bounds. Erickson can pick off a pass and lead the break going the other way. He is aggressive in transition and pushes the tempo by kicking the ball ahead. Jack is a high-energy player.

[player_tooltip player_id='1164807' first='Jacob' last='Nitschke'] (2024) |6'5 PF| Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier

He helped the Rebels win the District Championship. Nitschke is a very nice player and he was no stranger to a double-double. On many nights Jacob went for 20+ points and 10+ rebounds. Nitschke is strong, athletic, and a hard worker. Jacob can score with power at the rim, consistently hit from mid-range, and knock down the 3-ball. Nitschke has a fantastic shot fake and then he slashes to the paint where is constantly makes plays.

[player_tooltip player_id='1145406' first='Max' last='Musland'] (2024) |6'4 SG| LaMoure-Litchville/Marion

18.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 2.5 apg, 2.1 spg, 33 3FG%. Musland is an All-State type player. He is long a long athlete that can score from every level. Musland has a beautiful jump shot and he can hit off the bounce and catch. I really like the looks of his jump shot. On defense, his length disrupts passing lanes and Max can protect the rim. He is already a stud, Musland had a great season, but his best basket is still in front of him.

[player_tooltip player_id='1850178' first='Jonah' last='Harstad'] (2024) |5'11 G| Barnes County North

He is a strong guard with good shooting mechanics. Harstad is a hustler that sprints the floor and plays super hard. Will feeds the post, everybody loves a guard that is not afraid to get the ball inside! He is an aggressive & sharp cutter. I like how he uses shot fakes and pivots to get his defender out of position. Harstad has a well-rounded game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1850179' first='Will' last='Schwehr'] (2024) |6'0 F| Barnes County North

He is a thick and strong junior. Will makes plays in the paint, is effective in the high post, and can hit the triple. I like how he catches in the high post, reverse pivots, attacks and/or swings it to the open man. I love that Schwehr does not waste time with useless dribbles. On the block, Will seals low and scores with a quick drop step. On defense, Schwehr picks off passes with good timing and anticipation. He will also share the rock in transition. Schwehr is a solid all-around player with natural basketball instincts.

[player_tooltip player_id='1165343' first='Brady' last='Haugen'] (2025) |6'2 SF| Griggs-Midkota

He is a smooth and confident young shooter. Brady moves well without the ball and he is a serious in-rhythm bucket-getter. Haugen has long arms and he runs the floor well. Brady plays with guile and he hoops with a high IQ. It does not take long for Haugen to get going and he can put it in from every level. Haugen still has 2 big years of basketball ahead of him.

[player_tooltip player_id='1477437' first='Trey' last='Skoglund'] (2024) |6'0 PG| Oakes

He had a nice year as the PG and floor general for the Tornadoes. 11 ppg, 7 rpg, 3 apg, 3 spg. Trey's speedy-quick hands on defense make him a thief. Trey has extended shooting range that goes out beyond college depth. Skoglund's J is fluid and his follow-through is textbook. Trey has great court awareness and everyone is better because of it. He is a competitor and will only get better heading into next year.
