When looking at one of the most experienced and skilled guards in the 6A Final 4, look no further than Alex. He is one of the most reliable and trustworthy ball-handlers amongst all PGs in all classifications. He has a 150 to 42 assist-to-turnover ratio for the season. He does an excellent job facilitating McGill’s offense and keeping them in step with what is best for their squad in the given situation. He is a highly poised and heady lead guard who knows how to distribute the rock and get it to his teammates so they can be productive. Look for Alex to be the driving force in McGill’s blue map pursuit.

Austen Childress Austen Childress 6'2" | SF Buckhorn | 2024 State AL (6’1/G/’24/Buckhorn)

Austen will be instrumental in Buckhorn’s pursuit of the blue map. He had impressive sweet 16 and elite 8 games and will need to try and bring that game to the BJCC. Many people are putting their stock in Buckhorn because of how they took down Pinson Valley. AC will need to once again be a source of production in the scoring column. A lot of attention will be placed on his backcourt partner Caleb Holt, and that should give a lot of room and freedom to Austen to be able to operate in space. Look for Austen to show his versatility as a player who can play on or off the ball. He is a capable 3pt shooter, is aggressive going to the rim, and knows how to finish in traffic. His scoring will be highly needed.

Devin McCaine (5’11/CG/’23/McGill-Toolen)
Devin McCaine is a senior guard with experience who just knows how to score the rock. He is a gifted scorer that can get it done from all levels. He is wired to score, and he has the tools to get it done. He will be a tough cover for anyone that matches up against him. He also has the ability to switch to the lead guard spot if needed and is a player that Coach Murphy can rely on to facilitate when needed and score when needed. Look for Devin to impact the game by asserting himself on the offensive end of the floor, especially in the semi-final game against Buckhorn, when guard play will be key.

Terrence Robinson Terrence Robinson 6'1" | CG Buckhorn | 2023 State AL (6’1/F/’23/Buckhorn)
I mentioned T-Rob in my last article when it came to the Pinson Valley vs. Buckhorn game, and my predictions were spot on. T-Rob had an enormous game and was impactful on both ends of the floor and especially on the glass. His play in the paint, along with Austen Childress Austen Childress 6'2" | SF Buckhorn | 2024 State AL ‘ play on the perimeter, really was a factor in Buckhorn upsetting the Indians. Look for Terrence to continue his dominance in the paint on both ends of the floor, and his work on the glass could be a significant factor in Buckhorn advancing to the championship game.

Ty Davis Ty Davis 6'5" | SG Mountain Brook | 2024 State #191 Nation AL (6’3/CG/’24/Mountain Brook HS)

By now, everyone connected with high school basketball knows Ty Davis Ty Davis 6'5" | SG Mountain Brook | 2024 State #191 Nation AL , one of the best shooting guards in the state. He has Mountain Brook back in the Final 4, and the BJCC better get ready to have the stands filled with neon. Ty has really been playing a lot more comfortable with the return of Kyle Layton Kyle Layton 6'0" | PG Mountain Brook | 2023 State AL to the line-up, and that allows Ty to get back to playing off the ball and spotting up for open treys or coming off screens looking to score. He has unlimited range, and someone must guard him once he crosses half-court. Despite the strength of the Spartans’ core and supporting cast, their title hopes rest mainly on Davis’ shoulders. It will be important for Davis to also capture the state championship as the leader of the Spartans, putting himself in the line of the Spartan greats who have led the Spartans to the blue map. With Pinson Valley going down in the Elite 8, the 6A state title can be taken by any of the 4 teams that will battle it out this week. Look for Ty to have a huge final 4, as he will be a key factor in the Spartans’ offensive game plan.

Adrian Wooley Adrian Wooley 6'1" | SG Paul Bryant | 2024 State AL (6’5/SG/’24/Paul Bryant HS)
Adrian is a wing player with good positional size that can score the rock. He has been on a tear lately, scoring the rock. He will need to continue showing his scoring prowess if Paul Bryant plans to advance to the championship game to play for the blue map. Adrian is a player that creates his own shot and is a good iso scorer. He has nice handles, an excellent dribble-drive game, and is very scary in the open court. He can really play above the rim thanks to his size, length, and athleticism, and many times throughout the year, he has been the best player on the floor, but there will be a substantial amount of talent on the floor when Adrian leads his team up against Mountain Brook. Adrian will have to be a dominant force in the scoring column and provide on-court leadership for his team to succeed.

John Colvin (6’4/SG/’23/Paul Bryant HS)

John is another shooter that the Spartans have had to rely on this year as they awaited the return of Kyle Layton Kyle Layton 6'0" | PG Mountain Brook | 2023 State AL . With Ty Davis Ty Davis 6'5" | SG Mountain Brook | 2024 State #191 Nation AL having to spend a lot more time at the lead guard spot, John stepped in and filled a huge role for the Spartans in being able to score it from beyond the arc. John may not be considered a part of the Spartans’ big three, but he is definitely a key piece to the Spartans’ offensive attack, and his shooting is going to play a crucial role in keeping the floor spaced and providing driving lanes for his teammates to attack the gaps on that spacious BJCC floor.
Terry J. DrakeAlso, look for the smooth wing to be able to put it on the floor and mix up his scoring attack.
Jonathan Crawford, Jr. (5’11/CG/’23/Paul Bryant HS)
Johnathan is the orchestrator of the high-powered offensive attack that Paul Bryant will have on display at the Final 4. He has excellent passing and set-up ability and does a great job ensuring the rock gets into the hands of the team’s playmakers. He plays like a coach on the floor and excels at running the offense. He is a fiery competitor that sets the tone on both ends of the floor. He can get his squad into the open court and facilitate in the half-court. Look for the Paul Bryant team to be paced by JC, and he will be greatly needed in their semi-final match-up against the Spartans, who will try to control the pace from both ends of the floor. Throughout the years, the Spartans have had their trouble with PGs that could handle their pressure. If JC can handle it, it will give his squad a considerable boost. Also, look for JC to be a weapon from beyond the arc, as he is a lethal marksman from deep.
