NCHSAA Playoffs: South Granville/Manteo Recap/Standouts

Take a look at the recap/standouts from an exciting game that went back and forth.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Manteo Redskins didn't waste any time getting their offense going and it looked like they would run away with things in the early going. They jumped out to a 14-0 lead on the home team before [player_tooltip player_id='1076363' first='Oliver' last='Roberts'] cracked the seal with a 3-pointer to start the scoring. The rim presence of [player_tooltip player_id='1693993' first='Kaleb' last='Spencer'] played an early role in the Vikings' scoring woes. He led the way in the paint for Manteo with five early blocks and six points. The Redskins would ride the early offense of Spencer and senior shooting guard <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1693974' first='Will' last='Waughtel'] </strong>as he knocked down four 3-pointers in the opening quarter and led 22-13 after one quarter. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>South Granville would come out in the second quarter and keep things close, but Spencer really started to find his stride in the second quarter. He put up eight of their 12 second-quarter points while South Granville would win the scoring battle overall, scoring 14 points as a team behind two 3-pointers from [player_tooltip player_id='1113664' first='KJ' last='Green']. Manteo held a 34-27 lead at the half, but the Vikings would come out in the third quarter as a completely different squad. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Vikings would come out firing in the third quarter led by the efforts of junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1382677' first='Pierce' last='Pettit']. Pettit posted 12 of his 20 total points in the third quarter as he sparked a run that would bring things within 41-39. After that, the Vikings would go on a 7-0 to take a 46-41 and trigger a timeout from the Manteo sidelines. From there, they would take complete control, closing the final 2:16 of the quarter on 13-2 run. The Vikings outscored the Redskins 25-9 in the third quarter and it didn't help Spencer went down with a knee injury after a blocked shot and didn't return. After 3, South Granville led 52-43. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the fourth quarter, the Vikings would close things out with [player_tooltip player_id='1076363' first='Oliver' last='Roberts'] leading the charge. He posted 17 of his 20 points in the final quarter to close things out for South Granville. He finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and eight blocks, showing off his ability to protect the rim and be a presence in the paint offensively. By the end, he was leading by example and finished with 17 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter to ensure his team sealed the victory.
