Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown Recap (2018 Forwards)
Here is a look at some of the top Missouri Class of 2018 forwards from last weekend’s Prep Hoops Show-Me Showdown in St. Louis.
Dominic Mitchell 6’3″ St. Louis Bearcats: The versatile performer enjoyed an excellent weekend with his all-purpose play which helped lead his team to the 17U finals. Mitchell spent much of the tournament as a point-forward as he could handle and pass the ball, but still maneuver himself to the basket to get buckets. He’s crafty and knows how to play all the angles on the offensive end. I always like his old-school style of play, which still works for him.
Caleb Jones 6’6″ KC Elite: The long post player had a couple of really nice games scoring the ball in the interior. He is athletic and agile and showed the ability to run the court and score in transition. He was good around the basket with quick moves and a fine shooting touch out to 15 feet.
Thomas Lipscomb 6’7″ KC Pacers White: I’ve been watching this young man play for the past two weeks and I’ve been impressed with his size and versatile skill set. He is a very confident offensive player on the perimeter with his ability to handle the ball and make 3-point shots. He can create a little offense off the dribble plus he also moves well without the basket. He attends a small Christian school in Kansas.
Devin Drew 6’4″ KC Elite: An undersized power forward who is a physical beast around the basket at about 240 pounds. Drew is a blue collar performer who doesn’t take plays off. With his size and physical strength, that makes him a very productive player. He is very strong on the offensive glass where he just muscles his way for position.
Henry Gladson 6’5″ St. Louis Bearcats: A big-bodied post player who came on Sunday during bracket play and had an impact on the Bearcats getting to the championship game. He is very active around the basket and he uses his body well to get position in the low post. He can score around the basket with both hands, plus he can step out and knock down 15 footers off the catch.
Michael Akinwumi 6’6″ St. Louis Shooting Stars: An improving post player who was very active during the weekend. He is at his best when he is rebounding and playing post defense with high energy. His offensive game is a work in progress, but he did a good job of converting offensive rebounds.
