On The Radar: 2018 Centers
Over the last few days, we have been putting out our Top 10 lists of some of the best players for different categories. Obviously, there are more beyond the Top 10 and we want to highlight those players as well. Today, we are looking at five centers that are on our radar but need more attention.
Alex Gross – 6’8 | C | Hauser (IN) | MBA Select Indy 2018
Gross is a big post player who is still fairly raw but has tons of potential. He’s a little too mechanical right now but 6’8 doesn’t grow on trees and especially in this class. He does have some skill to him as he can spread the floor a bit. When he has time to shoot, he can knock down some elbow jumpers and threes. Needs as much time to develop as possible but a good project to have.
Brian Long – 6’7 | C | Greenfield-Central (IN) | GP Premier 2018-Devoe
Long is a big, strong low post player with some skill. Has the body to play right away. With some improved footwork and a little more time to develop, Long could be a really interesting prospect. His mobility could end up helping him improve as a rebounder and faced-up scorer. Again, the lack of size makes him even more intriguing.
Emerson Halibleib – 6’5 | C | University (IN)
Emerson isn’t a flashy player but he’s extremely functional. He’s really solid in the low post as a scorer and rebounder. Really like his ability to produce consistently independent of the talent he’s facing. High floor, low ceiling guy that can provide production for the right program. Deserves a long look.
Kyle Wolf – 6’7 | C | Brownsburg (IN)
Wolf is a tall forward with good size and solid footwork. At times he can be pretty productive but that inconsistency might be the only thing holding him back from moving up boards. Skilled in the post and can finish well with high right hand. Rebounds it well in spurts as he can rundown boards and even play away from the rim a bit. Would bring more versatility than other options.
Michael Jerrell – 6’6 | C | Indianapolis Pike (IN) | Indiana PROS 2018
Jerrell is a big, thick post who has a ton of strength and an improving game. Really like the improved consistency and his rebounding has also taken a jump forward. He’s a guy that looks like he is ready to start taking off and could be a bigger piece during the high school season than you see now. Legit size and strength and better frame than other options.
