My what two extra regular season games from the MHSAA has wrought. The rare mid season weekend tournament in the Upper Peninsula. I took in Friday night action at the four team invitational that was won by the host school St Ignace. Following are five players that caught my eye from Friday's contests.

Kevin Frazier 5-10 2023 St Ignace (pictured) St Ignace does not feature a lot of size. They compensate with one of the better backcourts in Northern Michigan. While [player_tooltip player_id='1587840' first='Jonathan' last='Ingalls'] (see below) is the motor. Frazier provides senior leadership and a steady scoring hand. Is in constant motion off the ball. Good at finding open spots on the perimeter. Also catches the ball in the shooting position. Plays mostly at the two but is a good enough ball handler to play the point when needed. If the Saints are able to make a deep March run. Frazier's play will be a big key

[player_tooltip player_id='1587840' first='Jonathan' last='Ingalls'] 5-11 2024 St Ignace I've been a big proponent of this lead guard's game for quite some time. I would encourage you to click the orange link above the read my previous scouting reports. Friday's contest was not the best setting for evaluation. As St Ignace downed an overmatched Lake City squad. Finished with 21 points but easily could have been a lot more. Is an excellent passer with next level court vision. One kick out pass particularly stood out. Was right the rim for what could been an acrobatic reverse finish. At the last moment found an open shooter at the top of the key with a simple flick of the wrist. Doesn't fit your idea of a prototypical UP guard. Has a lot of bounce in his legs and attacks the rim without fear. Doesn't live beyond arc. However don't be mistaken. Has extremely deep range on the perimeter. Locked in a solid two year battle with [player_tooltip player_id='1441371' first='Oskar' last='Kangas'] to be the top prospect in the Upper Peninsula.

[player_tooltip player_id='1434244' first='Luke' last='Gelow'] 6-5 2024 Gaylord Best overall athlete in the field by a pretty good margin. Has a long lanky frame that is simply built to play the game of basketball. Easily plays well above the rim. Had a nice dunk and came up empty on a few highlight reel level lobs. Handles the ball well for his size and gets to his spots easily on the perimeter. Did not shoot it well on Friday. Has an odd release as he shoots across his body. Has no issues near the basket. Showed a soft left handed touch at rim. As previously stated gets to the cup with ease due to athleticism. If the the deep shooting catches up to the rest of his game. This be could an intriguing wing option for recruiters. The physical upside is simply that tantalizing.

Jaxon Jurmu 5-10 2025 Marquette Up Power was not limited to the host squad. Marquette brought an extremely young but talented team. They defeated a tough Gaylord squad to advance to Saturday's final. Jurmu got off to a red hot start scoring 10 first quarter points. He did it inside and out with deep threes and hard drives to that basket. Not the biggest prospect but plays with a lot of moxie. The shooting touch seemed to wane in the second half. However still found ways to impact the game through ball distribution. Good passer who plays with his head up. Sealed the game at the line after Gaylord made a late charge. Should form a nice future backcourt with Kyler Sager who also played well on Friday.

Corbin Bisballe 6-1 2026 Lake City Have to state the obvious if you saw the score. Lake City is a rebuilding program that was severely outmanned Friday night. Accordingly they feature five freshman in their rotation. Bisballe perhaps has the most upside. Is a legitimate pass first point guard already. You don't often see that with freshman who are used to dominating the ball at the middle school level. The other rare trait is the size. Has good height for the position. Also has a long lanky frame that should fill out nicely. That being said struggled mightily with the speed and defensive pressure of St Ignace. Seemed to settle down a bit late after the outcome had long been decided. In that brief period showed offensive assertiveness and playmaking that he can build on. Comes from good bloodlines. Oldest sister plays at Grand Valley. The other one is a 2024 prospect on a Division 1 pathway. Has a ways to go but there is a lot of upside with this young prospect.
