Continue ReadingAs we move a little past mid season I’ve decided to highlight the top 5 players in the SWFL area. The first 4 were a no brainer doing everything they’ve needed to make sure their game is known in the area and were the main contributors to their teams winning, that fifth position could have been filled with anyone of 5 different players throughout the 3 counties.
Because it was such a close race with those players I’m reserving that spot till the end of the season and will only be doing a top 4 mentioning those that could potentially round out that 5th spot come season end.
2023 6’6 John Gamble John Gamble 6'6" Charlotte | 2023 FL Guard/Wing
A lot can be said about Gamble, when you’re the top player in the area you’re constantly under the microscope and the object of a lot of scrutiny. With that said, Gamble has continued to silence his doubters putting on an absolute show this season. He finished the prestigious City of Palms tournament a top 5 scorer, right now midway through the season averaging an impressive 21.5 ppg and shooting a very respectful 38% behind the arc while playing the strongest schedule in SWFL and one of the hardest in the state.
2023 6’3 Latrell Davis Latrell Davis 6'3" | CG First Baptist Academy | 2023 State FL Guard
Davis has established himself as the top player in Collier county. The dynamic combo guard is explosive when attacking the basket using his physical frame to shred through contact. Latrell is a great on ball defender, as well one of the best in the area at reading passing lanes which generally result in a steal and dunk on the other end of the floor. Davis plays a very up-tempo game and is dangerous when coming downhill. Hustle and effort make this prospect stand out.
2023 6’4 Bryce Clayton Bryce Clayton 6'3" | CG Barron Collier | 2023 State FL Guard
Clayton is a high IQ player, one of if not the best shooter in SWFL. I love the way he values each possession, takes smart shots and does everything one should do to help his team win. If I could use one word to describe Bryce it’s reliable, you know exactly what you’re going to get night in and night out. Often one of SWFL’s more slept on players but has proved time and time again this season why he’s a top 5 player and why he will be playing at the next level.
2023 6’4 Jahmari Johnson Jahmari Johnson 6'4" | CG Gateway Charter | 2023 State FL guard
Johnson came out of no where this season to put all of SWFL on notice. Not only has he led his Gateway Charter squad to an impressive 16-4 with one of the toughest schedules in SWFL, he’s doing so proving he is one of areas premier offensive threats. He’s had 9 30 point games, with his current season high of 39 pts. Averaging 25 ppg, 6.5 rebounds and 2 steals.
Players I see as a potential 5th come season end:
2024 6’4 Chris Cornish
2023 6’4 Jackson McAdams Jackson McAdams 6'4" | CG Naples | 2023 State FL
2023 6’4 Noah French Noah French 6'4" | SG Barron Collier | 2023 State FL
2023 6’7 Nick Cassano Nick Cassano 6'7" | PF Seacrest Country Day | 2023 State FL
2023 6’3 Iago Stanback
2023 6’4 Yohandry Ortiz
