Indy Heat 2018 EYBL – Session 2: Indianapolis
Indy Heat 2018 EYBL
Tyger Campbell, Brandon Johns, and Keion Brooks Jr. had a great first session for the team. The trio will most likely be the focal group for this team throughout the season. Marcus Bingham Jr. put together a great four game in Session 2 in Indianapolis this past weekend. He has been pulling in offers as his play continues to rise. After a tough first session in Hampton, going 1-3, Spiece was in need of having a strong second session in Indianapolis if they want to reach the Peach Jam at the end of the season. Spiece put together four strong outings and finished the second session 3-1, including a big time win against the previously undefeated Meanstreets. Now sitting at .500 (4-4), they have put themselves in a position to make a late run and get themselves an invite.
Zion Young – 6’3” Guard
Zion Young currently gets minutes as the back-up point guard off the bench for this roster. In Session 2 he showed off his playmaking and athletic abilities. Young gets to the basket with ease and can finish over and through contact with his build. His jump shot is consistent and he is a good decision maker in tough situations. Zion does exactly what this team needs him to do when he comes in the game and actually plays well when he’s on the court with Tyger when he gets bumped to the two guard.
Kean’e Jamal Harris – 6’2” Guard
Harris might be the best leaper on the circuit this year and he has shown it off in a couple of instances during the first two sessions. Jamal knocked down a few jumpers and it’s obvious that he has been working on it. Coaches are still looking for Harris to improve on his ball skills and decision making. If he can show improvement in those categories, he will start seeing his offers stack up.
Gavin Bizeua – 6’10” Forward
Gavin is a unique player at his size with the ability to run the floor as a wing and stretch the floor in the half court with his shot from deep. Gavin is coming off a strong EYBL season last year with the 16U Indy Heat team and has continued building on that success this season. He provides length on defense and a way to bring the opposing team’s big away from the basket on offense.
Marcus Bingham Jr. – 6’9” Forward
Marcus arguably had the strongest second session out of anyone on this roster. At 6’9”, he runs the floor well, breaks down bigger defenders off the dribble, and can score from the perimeter. He has great length and athleticism for his size and it shows when he gets in around the basket and out on the fast break in the open floor. His offers are continuing to pile up including a recent Michigan State offer after session two.
Keion Brooks Jr. – 6’8” Guard
Keion Brooks Jr. is one of the two 2019 kids on this roster but he isn’t playing like it. He came out and took the EYBL circuit by storm as a newcomer in Hampton and continued to play at the same high level in Indianapolis. He is a mismatch nightmare and has been scoring at a high rate this year on the circuit. Keion is one of the hot names on the circuit right now and is fresh off a new offer from Kansas following session two. Keion took his high school team to state and has been playing at a high-level sense. Keep an eye on this kid as he explodes into the D1 market.
Tyger Campbell – 6’0” Guard
Tyger is the other 2019 player on the Spiece Indy Heat 2018 roster but is no newcomer to the circuit. Tyger played on this roster under Coach Dan Kline last year and was a big reason for their success, along with Jaren Jackson Jr. Campbell is a highly-touted guard with the ability to break down his defender and find the open man in rhythm. His jump shot has continued to improve and his list of offers is continuing to lengthen. He had moments in session two that he looked like he could go for fifty if he wanted to. He has the ability to completely control a game on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
Jarron Coleman – 6’5” Guard
Coleman has really started coming into his own after his strong season at Cathedral. The junior wing can knock it down with consistency from deep and has good ball skills in the open floor. Jarron has recently picked up an offer from Western Illinois following his strong play off the bench in session two. He is a secondary ball handler on this roster and can score against defenders bigger and smaller.
Jacob Polakovich – 6’8” Forward
Jacob is a newcomer to the Indy Heat program but has proven to be a crucial piece to their success. As the starting big man, Jacob showed that he is good with body positioning and rebounding against those who may be bigger or more athletic. He spaces the floor well on offense and is a good passer out of the post. In session two he proved that his strong hands and floor positioning were his strong suits. He finished well around the basket with both hands as well.
Brandon Johns – 6’8” Guard
Brandon Johns took session two by storm. He played at the level that the coaching staff of this Indy Heat team have been waiting for. Multiple times Johns finished above the rim which lead to a poster dunk over a New York Rens defender. Brandon played with this team last year as well and they are counting on him to produce at the level he did during session two for the remainder of the season. Brandon broke defenders down with the dribble, showed his back to the basket game, and shot the ball well from deep all weekend.
