Prep Hoops started the boy's basketball season up in Fort Mill at the Milltown Classic this past Monday. Despite having phone issues all night this was a great start to the season. Let's catch up with the action right here.

Westminster Catawba 70 Nation Ford HS 55

Catawba Ridge HS 61 Strom Thurmond HS 22

Collins Hill (GA) 57 Cardinal Newman 55 (Overtime)

Fort Mill HS 54 Piedmont HS (NC) 44

Top Performances:

[player_tooltip player_id='1626156' first='Gabriel' last='Tooper'] - Fort Mill HS

Tooper was at it again tonight for the Yellow Jackets. Gabriel finished the evening with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists according to our stats. Tooper a Stock-Riser for sure in the 2023 Palmetto State Class when the new rankings come out next week. He brings good versatility to play all over the floor the at times. Toper was able to connect on some mid-range jumpers when he wasn't finishing around the rim. Gabriel is a very deceptive athlete at times.

[player_tooltip player_id='638847' first='Tim' last='Hall'] - Westminster Catawba (Rock Hill)

Hall is a new addition to the Indians roster this season. Tim played over in the Hoop State last season at Vertical Academy. Hall plays bigger than his size around the cup. Tim is very quick leaper and really defends multiple positions on the floor very well at times. Hall had a quite the opening round night with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks. Look for Hall to make a debut in next week's new rankings in the 2023 Palmetto State Class.

[player_tooltip player_id='1168159' first='Zyan' last='Hager'] - Catawba Ridge HS

Hager came out on fire in an opening round victory over Strom Thurmond. Zyan finished the evening with 21 points after connecting on 4 three pointers. Hager really looked to go to work from the corners with his shot. Hager and the Copperheads led from start to finish in this game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1669881' first='Kenyon' last='Addie'] - Westminster Catawba (Rock Hill)

Addie was on fire from behind the arc all day long for the Indians. Kenyon dropped 6 three pointers on his way to scoring 18 points. He really did a good job of shooting the ball at a high percentage clip and working the corners.

One and Done:

Cardinal Newman lost a tough one at the buzzer to Collins Hill (GA) 57-55 in overtime. The Cardinals were filling in for Westwood HS on the opening day of the Mill Town Classic. [player_tooltip player_id='1063832' first='Jordan' last='Frazer'] led the way with 14 points while [player_tooltip player_id='1340384' first='Evan' last='Carter'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1160754' first='Josiah' last='Peeples'] both chipped in with 12 points apiece. The Cardinals have some good talent this season for Head Coach Philip Deter to make a run in the SCISA Class 4A ranks.

Long Night for the Rebels:

Rebels Head Coach Owen Jacobs and his squad had a long opening night. The Rebels just finished a solid football season before bowing out in the playoffs to Saluda last week. The Rebels will be fine moving forward and will get the full team together in basketball mode in the few weeks. [player_tooltip player_id='1626152' first='William' last='Bush'], [player_tooltip player_id='1442013' first='Quan' last='Edmond'] and Brent Graham will look to lead this Rebels program this season. Roosevelt Walker is a new name for the Prep Hoops database to start following. Walker a left-handed rangy athlete was able to drop a few floaters here today in rough opening night loss.

Falcons Fall:

The Nation Ford HS Falcons ran into a buzzsaw on the opening night of the Milltown Classic in Westminster Catawba. The Falcons were led by junior left-handed guard [player_tooltip player_id='1220048' first='JJ' last='Rembert']. Rembert scored 23 points according to my unofficial stats on the evening. JJ wants to play and get the ball to the rack whenever possible. [player_tooltip player_id='1168160' first='Caden' last='Giles'] got off to a fast start early with his play around the bucket for the Falcons. Giles a skilled forward has turned all of his attention to the hardwood after not playing football this past season as a Quarterback.
