Indiana High School Basketball teams are now allowed two on court days a week and we take that opportunity to start previewing the upcoming season. So far, I’ve visited Fishers, North Central, Avon, Connersville, Kokomo, Cathedral, Franklin, Crispus Attucks, Ben Davis, Richmond, Zionsville, Carmel, Bishop Chatard, Guerin Catholic, Noblesville, Center Grove, Bloomington South, New Castle, and Hamilton Southeastern. This week, I started off my travels with a trip to Seton Catholic on Tuesday followed by a trip to Southport on Wednesday afternoon. Then, on Thursday morning, I took in 6:00 a.m. workouts at Park Tudor. Finally, I wrapped up the trip with a stop at Greenfield-Central High School. Let’s take a look at what the Cougars have this season.
Roster Breakdown
Greenfield-Central has steadily improved through three seasons with head coach Luke Meredith at the helm. After going .500 in year one, the Cougars improved to 14-10 and then 15-8 a year ago. Postseason success has continued to escape them, but winning has become the new normal at Greenfield. This season, the Cougars bring back their top two scorers but Sectional 9 is as strong as it has been in a while.
Leading the way for the Cougars will be senior guard Dylan Moles Dylan Moles 6'3" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN . The Marian commit averaged 19.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game as a junior. He was 46-112 from beyond the arc and finished with extremely impressive efficiency with 52%/41%/88% shooting splits. Moles is one of the better pure scorers in the state of Indiana who could play his way into Indiana All-Star consideration if he puts up the numbers he is capable of and leads Greenfield-Central to a successful season.
Moles’ running mate in the backcourt will be sophomore Braylon Mullins Braylon Mullins 6'6" | SG Greenfield-Central | 2025 State #123 Nation IN . The 6’4″ guard was the Cougars second leading scorer as a freshman averaging 11.2 points per game while shooting 43-112 from three-point range. Ranked as a top five prospects in the Class of 2025 by Prep Hoops Indiana, Mullins is poised to take a leap here in his sophomore season. His skill level and shooting ability will take some of the pressure off of Moles to constantly create scoring opportunities.
The other primary returning piece is also found in the Greenfield-Central backcourt. Senior guard Tyler Kerkhof Tyler Kerkhof 6'1" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN averaged 4.4 points per game a year ago and was a 38% three-point shooter. The 6’1″ guard had a strong summer and should step into a much larger role in his final season in a Cougars uniform. The trio of Moles, Mullins, and Kerkhof are all highly skilled and shoot a great percentage from beyond the arc. They will be as talented as any backcourt in the area.
Seniors Will DeJarnett and Owen Anderson are expected to round out the starting lineup for Coach Meredith. Anderson will miss the start of the season with a shoulder injury suffered during football season, but both will be primary rotation contributors this season. There are a handful of other Cougars without much, if any, varsity experience that will contribute this season as well. Sophomores Dallas Freeman, Boston Willard, and Cameron Stump Cameron Stump 6'4" | SF Greenfield-Central | 2025 IN will likely get their feet wet at the varsity level. Juniors Jake Hinton and Braden Robertson Braden Robertson 6'4" | PF Greenfield-Central | 2024 IN will be called upon. Also, seniors Nathan Gasparrini and Ian Jack will get opportunities to carve out a role.
Season Outlook
Overall, there is a lot to like about this season’s Greenfield-Central team. They have very good top end talent, an excellent backcourt, and some other talented but unproven pieces ready to step into varsity action. Another 15+ win season is very much in the cards for the Cougars. Dylan Moles Dylan Moles 6'3" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN is one of the top pure scorers in the area. Braylon Mullins Braylon Mullins 6'6" | SG Greenfield-Central | 2025 State #123 Nation IN should be poised for a big sophomore season. Senior Tyler Kerkhof Tyler Kerkhof 6'1" | PG Greenfield-Central | 2023 State IN will join Moles and Mullins to make up one of the most dynamic backcourts you’ll find. However, Sectional 9 is no joke and cutting down the nets will be a tall task for any team given the stiff competition they will be facing in March.
