At 14-13 on the season Cromwell-Wright won the Polar League (Small) by two games. What does the five/six team league look like this year? We give it a run through this morning at Prep Hoops.

Top Contenders: Cromwell-Wright, McGregor

I like Cromwell-Wright to take a step forward this year maybe closing in on 20 wins and surely being the favorite in this league. With two all league conference players back at guard they are in a great spot plus they have four others back from the rotation. With their best two players back McGregor should be a top challenger for the league. Both Bohn and Morgart were all league players last season and the Mercuries gave Cromwell-Wright competitive fights a year ago.

Compete with Most: Carlton, Wrenshall

I just have to assume that Carlton will be better than last year's 5-win season. Their roster only had three upperclassmen on it last year and two of those players graduated. With so many young guys in the rotation and their main playmaker returning, Carlton should take a step forward. Wrenshall lost their two best players to graduation but they do have three starters returning so they should be right around that .500 mark again. Also, Wrenshall will only have a single senior that we can tell so they are building for what could be a good winter coming up, and a potential great winter in two seasons.

Rebuilding: Floodwood, Silver Bay

Expect to see some really young players on the floor in spots this year mixed with returning players in their final year. The Polar Bears won two games last year and their best player graduated. Likely a rebuilding year.

I'm not really sure what to do with Silver Bay. I was told they might have mixed with Two Harbors this year and when you go to the conference website and look at schedules, it only lists girls basketball games for Silver Bay. The rumor is likely right but then again there is nothing about it online that I can find and there was nothing submitted to us for the Breakdown book saying that Silver Bay joined Two Harbors. I wanted to put them in here anyway to get some guys recognized but in doing research it looks like their good players either graduated or transferred (Dylan Schwarz to Northland for example) so I am just going to leave them out.

22-23 Conference Predictions

Cromwell-Wright

McGregor

Wrenshall

Carlton

Floodwood

Preseason All Polar League (small)

First Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1565941' first='Noah' last='Foster'] of Cromwell-Wright (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='962290' first='Ethan' last='Bohn'] of McGregor (sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2109919' first='Dylan' last='Nyberg'] of Cromwell-Wright (soph)

Luukas Korpella of Carlton (jr)

Darian Morgart of McGregor (sr)

Second Team

Peyton Johnson of Wrenshall (sr)

Tanner Collman of Cromwell-Wright (jr)

Carter Woodall of Wrenshall (jr)

AJ Olesen of Wrenshall (jr)

Isaiah Serfling of McGregor (sr)
