In a perfect embodiment of his accomplished high school career, it wasn’t always pretty but Dubose simply found a way to get the job done. The senior closed out his four-year run at Sankofa in winning fashion, avenging last year’s state championship loss by knocking off defending champ The Neighborhood Academy for a Class A title. Dubose delivered 18 points to lead the Warriors, using his lumping downhilll style to get to the foul line 15 times and help foul out a handful of Bulldog players. There’s been higher-upside college prospects to come through the program, but Dubose’s state crown and career scoring mark give him a real argument as the greatest player in Sankofa’s storied recent history.

A valuable contributor since he was a freshman and a double-figure scorer for multiple years now, Dubose has proven himself to be one of the more effective mismatch scorers not just in the league but in the entire city. A hard-charging downhill threat, he brings an effective blend of quickness, strength, explosiveness, and skill while attacking the rim in the halfcourt or transition. He thrived earlier on in his career based more on his physical tools, but he’s shown impressive signs of polishing his skillset as a shooter, ballhandler, and playmaker while taking on increasingly heavy usage as an upperclassman. While a bit undersized for a wing or hybrid forward at the scholarship level, he could earn fans at that level through the winter if his skillset continues to sharpen, but would be a safe bet to produce sooner rather than later should he slip to the small-college ranks.

One of the more productive players in the Public League over the past couple years, Dubose got off to a slow start but was key in the second half as Sankofa dropped the hammer on South River (MD). A hard-charging downhill driver, he looked a bit quicker and smoother than we’d seen in the past before finishing athletically near the rim. Previously more of an undersized faceup forward, Dubose showed signs of progressing into a true wing with added polish to his ballhandling and playmaking along with a smoother release on his perimeter stroke. With a track record of production across settings, Dubose’s toughness, athleticism, and natural ability to generate buckets downhill should make him a coveted target at the small-college level despite being a bit unorthodox.

His polished footwork and upper body strength enabled Dubose to score on the inside despite multiple defenders trying to stop him. His developing jump shot featured range out to 15 feet. Dubose is a rugged undersized forward who plays with an immense deal of physicality. He makes a living on the glass and is a magnet for rebounds. He does a good job getting downhill when driving along the baseline. Dubose does a nice job scoring on the interior. He has no problem lumbering his way downhill. He should see a ton of small colleges involved with him.

Back in March during the 1A state tournament Dubose proved to be a dominating interior prospect. That trend continued this weekend in Jersey as Dubose proved again to be a mismatch in the paint. Running with Team Final Black, Dubose converted on post ups over both shoulders as well as on drop steps and flip hooks. Dubose also crashed the offensive glass for second chance points. His athleticism and quick second jump enabled him to be a force on the boards at both ends. College coaches would also love the defensive effort Dubose gave this past weekend.

Across Sankofa’s three game run to the 1A semifinals, Dubose is averaging 18 points per game. So, his 10-point effort in this win was a quiet scoring night for him. However, Dubose showed up when it counted as he dominated the early 4th quarter with buckets in close. That Dubose scoring outburst put this game away for Sankofa. Dubose’s versatility and athleticism was on full display in this contest as he found success scoring from the wing too.

Across Sankofa’s three game run to the 1A semifinals, Dubose has registered 18 points per game. The highlight of Dubose’s recent stretch of extraordinary play was a 22-point effort (1 three) during Sankofa’s quarterfinal win over Chester Charter. This athletic junior is showing promise as a DI stretch-4 prospect. Dubose owns the length, muscular frame, polished footwork, and aggressiveness needed to score points on the interior via post ups and the offensive glass. He can also drag his defender out to the perimeter and pop threes over him. Or Dubose can use his quick first step to score from the wing off one or two dribbles. Defensively, Dubose is a beast on the boards and an intimidating shot blocker.
