Check out my analysis on some of the top 2024 prospects in the Houston area! Some of these guys are division one prospects, with little to no offers. So coaches make sure you check them out when you can!

#5 [player_tooltip player_id='1217197' first='Chris' last='McDermott'] 2024 6'8 Booker T Washington High School (JL3 EYBL E16)

Chris is a very impressive prospect who is skilled enough to play alongside another big man, and play out of the high post. He can play out of the mid-post, out of the triple threat or with his back to the basket. He smartly and quickly attacks his defender before the help defender can come over. He has a confident post turn around, and can hit it at the elbow or stretching the floor on the wings and the corners. When he is backing smaller opponents down, he is strong and knows how to effectively use a drop step into dunk on his opponent. He is a high level rebounder, who knows how to high point the ball and constantly clear the glass. He can out leap bigger defenders, but also works to box out his opponents and allow himself or his teammates to grab uncontested rebounds. McDermott is a very intriguing prospect who seems to have all of the tools be to become a dominant forward at the next level.

#4 Anthony Bates Jr 2024 6'3 Katy Seven Lakes High School

Anthony is a very fluid athlete who has great body control. He is a high-level finisher in the paint due to his ability to get around defenders with quick moves such as euro steps and double clutches. He has a great handle and ability to put the ball on the floor and get to his spots. He displayed a plethora of high level moves such as floaters and creative step backs. He is a very skilled shooter off the bounce. Bates is also a very aware player who knows how to attack the weak spots in the defense. I was blown away by his maturity with the basketball and willingness to take what the defense gives him. When the defense looks to take him away, he calmly makes the right reads and make sure his teammates stay involved. He comfortably shot from all three levels of the floor and lived in the mid-range. He is developing at a very rapid rate over the last year and a half, and I am excited to see how much he continues to grow. Bates and Seven Lakes lost a heart breaker to Bellaire at the buzzer during one of the most exciting games of the year

#3 [player_tooltip player_id='1217922' first='Luke' last='Coughran'] 2024 6'2 Katy Tompkins High School (LOFDL EYBL E16)

Luke is one of the best true shooting guards to come out of Houston in some time. He has dramatically improved every time I have seen him step on the court, and this weekend was no different. He had two games where he had five straight three pointers made. However, they were not the heat check threes that are becoming so normal these days, these were perfectly in rhythm in the flow of the offense, taking high percentage looks and making the defense pay for relaxed coverage. He is a calm shooter, even with a defender in his grill. The aspect of his shot that really impressed me was how every shot looked exactly the same, off the catch or even as he is attacking in the full court with a live dribble. Simply put, he is an incredibly tough shot maker across all three levels of the floor.

Coughran possesses great arm length which allows him to finish at the rim with ease. His consistency in the paint was very impressive, even against strong defenders. He has great off ball awareness and is great at flashing to the high post or cutting to the basket to give his team a passing option and put pressure on the middle of the defense. You can tell he sees the floor at a very high level, allowing him to affect the game on and off the ball. This aspect of his game might be the thing that I have seen him grow this year; he is calmly making the right reads, attacking the defense when necessary and even creating out of the pick and roll. If you are in the Houston area, be sure you check this kid out before its too late!

#2 [player_tooltip player_id='1218009' first='Jakeel' last='Registe'] 2024 6'5 Episcopal High School

Jakeel was one of the most impressive guards in attendance with his ability to create separation with his handle, but also finish at the rim with his explosive athleticism. I loved watching him float toward the rim and change his shot angle to maneuver around his opponent in the paint. In the full court he is an absolute monster, constantly attacking defenders on the break and forcing them to make a decision. An aspect of his game that really stood out to me was his aggressiveness slashing and attacking the basket, but more importantly going after offensive rebounds. His consistency on the glass and his ability to finish tip ins allows him to get easy points in the paint. Registe finished tomahawk dunks and lobs that really got his team juiced and made everyone play harder off of his constant energy and aggression. He carries himself on the court as a hard working combo guard, and his explosive energy allows you to truly feel his presence as soon as you step into the gym. On the defensive end, he uses his frame and agility to not only stay in front of defenders but also poke the ball free. Time after time, he came up with steals by clamping up ball handlers on the sideline through full court pressure and allowing him to get easy points on the break (see video below, #2). His ability to truly do it all on both ends of the floor is incredibly impressive, and his willingness to defend positions 1-4 will make him a valuable prospect over the next two years. Registe is a prospect you MUST keep your eye on as he continues to develop over the next two years. I am expecting a massive junior campaign next year and I cannot wait to see what kind of waves he will make.

#1 [player_tooltip player_id='1352537' first='Robert' last='Miller'] 2024 6'9 Pasadena Memorial High School

Robert was at it again dominating across both sides of the ball, showing off his handle and ability to go coast to coast as well as dominating on the interior. He is truly an elite rim protector who knows when to slide over as a help defender and reject shots in the paint, chase down his opponents on the fast break and even contest jumpers on the perimeter. He showed a great motor to clear the glass on both ends of the court, even when matched up against other high level forwards. Miller is a truly high level prospect with the ease in which he dominates his opponents in the paint, but also the agility he displays and the natural touch he has from range. He is an effortless scorer off the bounce, who uses his size and athleticism to get wherever he wants to on the court, and simply rise above his opponent. He showed an ability to truly score off the bounce from all three levels, and is dominant in the post; both fading away and also backing his defender underneath the basket.

He is an athletic freak with the agility, natural bounce and the way he moves laterally. I was blown away with how easy he made everything look on both ends of the court. He has all the tools to be an incredibly effective prospect who looks like he can be molded into any kind of basketball player imaginable with his size. Miller has been getting a plethora of offers recently, including Alabama, California, TCU, Texas and Texas A&M.
