Brandon Ramsey | Prep Hoops Scout
An injury or two have kept us from seeing Matelic in the summers much, but he really solidified himself as one to watch as a senior. The 6’6″ guard can initiate offense, score off of the dribble from all over the court, and use his size to dominate other guards around the rim. Matelic averaged 25.2 points per game for Speedway High School. He is committed to play at Trine and jumped from #119 to #89 in our prospect rankings.

When it comes to under-the-radar prospects in the Indiana class of 2026, Matelic is one of the better ones that you will find. Out of Speedway High School, Matelic has been outstanding for the Sparkplugs all season long averaging 25.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game for them. Matelic is a longer point guard that uses his positional size to take advantage of the smaller defenders. You can watch him this week when Speedway opens up Sectional play vs Indianapolis Washington.

We went to see Matelic play on Wednesday and, despite Speedway falling to Cascade, came away very impressed. The 6’6″ guard has excellent positional size and uses it well to score around the basket or pull-up for jump shots that would otherwise be tightly contested. He scored 26 points in that contest and is one of the state’s leading scorers averaging 29.6 points to go along with 8.4 rebounds for the Sparkplugs.

Matelic put together a big sophomore season at Speedway High School averaging 14.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game to earn his way into the Indiana Basketball All-Star Classic. Then, on Friday night, he proved his beloved finishing with 14 points against some excellent competition. He is a bigger guard that uses his size well when attacking the basket off of the dribble or elevating for a jump shot. Look for Matelic to have a big month of July heading into what should be a breakout junior season for the Sparkplugs.

Matelic is another bigger point guard who shot the ball well this weekend. He is a real catch and shoot guy who is best when spotting up in rhythm. He also showed good vision running the point and was exceptional on the defensive end of the floor, using his length to cause problems.
