Check out my analysis on some of the top 2023 prospects in the San Antonio area! Some of these guys are division one prospects, with little to no offers. So coaches make sure you check them out when you can!

#10 Ethan Crowley 2023 6'8 Clark High School

Ethan is a highly skilled forward with a great frame to back down his opponents and fight through contact down low. I was very impressed with how well he fought for not only positioning but for his space as he backed his opponents down. He is patient with his back to the basket, and waits for his opponent to shift their weight or jump for a pump fake before he makes his move quickly to catch them off balance. I loved watching him manipulate their positioning and then as soon as he felt them sag off he quickly spun the other way for a quick post hook. Crowley has incredible size and has some real high level basketball IQ with his back to the basket, a bit of a lost art in today's game! He is a strong player down low who is good at not only keeping the ball high but finishing through contact. He routinely made the defense pay for being lazy and swiping at the ball, showing great consistency with his free throw form as well.

#9 Tristan Holden 2023 6'6 Taft High School

Tristan is incredibly strong rebounder who has natural forward instincts and quick feet that look like he is capable of becoming a dynamic 4 or a small ball center at the next level. His ability to move his feet allowed him to defend guards and wings on the perimeter when switched onto them. He routinely cleared the glass and was good at keeping his head up and the ball high to make the right outlet pass. I was very impressed with how well he handled the ball on the fast break, throwing down a few thunderous dunks on the fast break. He is a natural finisher who knows there are few kids who can contest him down low. He showed an ability to consistently stretch the floor from his ability to knock down shots off the catch from the corners and the wings. I loved watching him screen his opponents and put his weight into them, freeing space for his teammate. He loves popping out to the perimeter for an open look at the three point line. I would like to see him work on opening up quicker as he rolls to the rim after the screen.

#8 Luke Mills 2023 6'5 Reagan High School

Luke is a hard working wing prospect with the ability to affect the game on the interior, with his nonstop motor and willingness to fight on the glass. He has really improved a lot since the last school season, and again since I saw him in early May. He is much more confident with his handle and ability to attack downhill. He is already a confident scorer with his back to the basket, and is just beginning to tap into his effectiveness as a slashing prospect. Where he really makes his mark is his switch ability and willingness to defend all five positions. He is strong down low, allowing him to compete and bump with other strong forwards, but is athletic enough to move his feet and take away guards driving lanes. I would like to see him become more consistent with his shot off the catch, and continued development in the midrange and at the free throw line.

#7 [player_tooltip player_id='1153456' first='AaShon' last='Holmes'] 2023 6'1 San Antonio Harlan High School

Aashon is a complete three level scorer who is a real threat every time he comes into the half court. I was blown away by his shot making ability off the bounce, and he dazzled and danced around his defenders with a live dribble. His creative handle allows him to get anywhere he wants on the court. He can control the tempo of the game like a point guard and is great at changing his speed to keep his defenders off balance. He lives in the paint off of his ability to get around defenders, and is a very consistent finisher in the paint. He knows how to use every inch of the floor to his advantage, he is aware and knows which dribble moves he can use to create space on the baseline or the sideline. He was a show every time he finished on the break as well, he is a beast going coast to coast! Holmes is a real threat to score and manipulate the defense in whatever way he wants.

#6 Eddie McAfee III 2023 6'8 Brennan High School

Eddie is a dominant force in the paint on both ends of the court with the way he anchors his team's defense but also is their bail out option when they cannot get anything going on the perimeter. He showed incredible consistency down low, routinely finishing over smaller defenders who got switched onto him and punishing the defense for that mistake. He is good at keeping the ball out of the reach of his opponents and has great hands to catch and finish in one smooth motion. I was very impressed with how well he caught passes down low and was able to quickly do something productive with it. He has quick post moves to quickly attack an opponent with his back to the basket. On the defensive side of the court, he rejected shots and came over at the right time as a second defender to make life difficult for his opponents. His team went 5-0 on the weekend and McAfee was a big reason why. I expect him and Brennan High School to have a dominant year next year with the amount of production they get out of the one and two guard spots, they are missing a dominant big to pair with them!
