The 270 Hoops prospect camp hosted at the Fieldhouse USA brought out over a hundred high school prospects from Ohio to compete. In this article I’m going to break down some new names who stood out at the event.

[player_tooltip player_id="1519635" first="Atou" last="Thiam"], 6’3 SF Pickerington Central 2024: Thiam made four 3-pointers in one 10-minute game that I caught. He also looked capable of attacking off the bounce by beating closeouts. Thiam has a good body and comes from an athletic family and could grow some more. Thiam needs to make some progressions with his feel for the game, but that will come with more experience in competitive games.

[player_tooltip player_id="1519636" first="Jackson" last="Beasley"], 6’1 SG Port Clinton 2024: Beasley was my favorite prospect I had no clue who he was prior to coming to the event. Beasley had a little burst off the bounce, made an open 3 ball and his shot mechanics looked fine. Beasley got to the rim often and even sealed a defender in transition for a layup. I also appreciated Beasley’s communication on defense, that’s something that stands out at a showcase event.

[player_tooltip player_id="1519637" first="James" last="Nowell"], 5’10 PG Eastmoor Academy 2024: Nowell was maybe the top shooter from the first session, making 3-pointers in pretty much every game he played. While Nowell is a microwave scorer, he also has good hands defensively which showed he could provide value on both ends. I expect Nowell to have a breakout Junior season as he establishes himself as one of the top guards in the Columbus city league.

[player_tooltip player_id="1519638" first="Kraig" last="Gilbert"], 6’7 C Grove City 2024: Gilbert is a raw big man but had some passing feel and had an impressive dunk in drills. Gilbert has something to work with considering his size and frame. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was much improved in a year or two.

King Kendrick, 5’8 PG Northland 2026: Kendrick was a fan favorite at the event and made myself a fan with his game. Kendrick got things going in isolation, playing against all older and bigger guys. Despite this, he didn’t back down and worked defensively. Kendrick also finished at the rim despite being undersized. Kendrick appears to be one of the top guards in central Ohio’s incoming freshman class.
