Recruiting Report: Christian Jones (2018)
It’s been a long road back from a nagging knee injury which cut into the majority of Annapolis High School lead guard Christian Jones‘ sophomore season, but after several months of rest and rehab, Jones returned better than ever.
“Coming off of injury last year, when I didn’t see any AAU season in the offseason, it’s been quite tough for me getting back to that transition of being on the court and getting my wind up, and being able to run up and back down the floor and knock down shots and do all the things I could do before I got hurt.” explained Jones, who was instructed by doctors to sit for a four month period after suffering a torn meniscus in November of 2015.
Surgery followed in January of 2016, and Jones played in just 10 games during his sophomore year.
“From the minute I could walk, there was a ball in my hand,” said Jones, who hails from Annapolis. “Since I was able to walk I was all around basketball. With my older brother that’s 7 years older than me.”
Jones thoroughly impressed in a narrow defeat to eventual 4A state champs Perry Hall. His ability to handle pressure, and create shots while doing his due diligence defensively was well noted.
“I can score off the dribble. I can shoot. Create space and get my shot off,” replied Jones when asked to describe his game. “On the defensive end i’m there to crash boards. And on the offensive end find the open man.”
A relative unknown to this point, Jones recently landed his first scholarship offer from High Point. He’s a 3.67 student, and has good size at 6’3. Jones can play the 1 or the 2, and will certainly get the opportunity to do a little of both with The Team BBC on the Adidas Gauntlet this summer.
“I need to work on my shot. Some nights my shots fall some nights they don’t but I need to put up more shots out of practice,” said Jones when asked what he’s working on right now.
What can a college coach interested in recruiting Jones expect him to bring to a program at the next level?
“A floor general. Someone that can score and get the next man to score.”
