THE staple of June is back, the Jerry Peters Classic, hosted by the Memphis University School.

Details have been spotty, but team standings, game results, and occasional individual stats are available. In addition, we are reaching out to coaches to get their insight on the June 10-12 occurrence.

After the first two days several teams creeped to the top of the heap. Importantly, this is June. The best team(s) in June are hardly favorites to win Championships in March.

Ayden Shaw managed 61 points between two games. The Jackson Christian guard is certainly a play to keep an eye on. He made 17 free throws combined.

[player_tooltip player_id="1262198" first="Michael" last="Pepper"] (Christian Brothers) delivered a wonderful opening day Friday, with 42 points (21 ppg). He was fantastic in the state tournament, and given full credit for re-emerging after some uninspiring performances in January.

[player_tooltip player_id="1262199" first="Brock" last="Vice"] (Houston) played rugged, helping with 20 ppg, 13 rpg through his first two matches.

Though FACS won the state tournament, they dressed some very talented freshmen in March 2022. The departing seniors delivered something special to the program, but the rebirth will be swift thanks to that ’25 class. Kristopher Carrol scored 20 ppg in his first two at the Jerry Peters Classic. He made eight three-pointers combined in the first two games. Teammate [player_tooltip player_id="1400890" first="Kingston" last="Goodwin"] pulled down 9.5 rpg and guard [player_tooltip player_id="1400889" first="Jacob" last="Walker"] wrangled 8.0 rpg through Saturday morning.

Top outside shooters included: Kevin Carroll, Xavier Alexander (Overton), [player_tooltip player_id="1140778" first="Cooper" last="Haynes"] (Briarcest Christian), [player_tooltip player_id="1044484" first="Regale" last="Moore"], [player_tooltip player_id="1416313" first="Charvez" last="Ambrose"] (Bartlett).Eric Jones (Fayette Ware).

Undefeated Teams

Hillsboro (4-0), Germantown (4-0), MUS-Blue (3-0), Bartlett-Blue (3-0), Middleton (2-0), and Lausanne (2-0) began the event without a loss. Bartlett’s "red" team lost just a single game to Jackson Christian. If you wanted to combine the two Bartlett records, then they would be 7-1. Pretty impressive.

Crossroads

Each year, once a year, Adam Shoulders hosts the Crossroads Invitational (CREI) in middle Indiana. The event typically provides a launchpad for underclassmen. This weekend a sprinkling of Tennessee-based players are in attendance.

[player_tooltip player_id="1352797" first="Savion" last="Anderson"] (Harding Academy) competed against many of the top, young guards in the country.

[player_tooltip player_id="1296308" first="Reid" last="Conley"], a frequent camper around the southeast, is also making the most of his opportunity. Conley was the youngest camper with the 2021 @PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine.

NBA Stylistic Comparison: 2019 Raptors Fred VanVleet

[player_tooltip player_id="1296308" first="Reid" last="Conley"] moves well off the ball. Understands floor spacing. Not explosive at this early point. Conley is extremely light on his feet. Needs more upper body strength. Plays with an uncommon hunger.

Reid and his family knew he would be the youngest and smallest participant at this event. Still, he embraced the challenge and demonstrated an elevated basketball maturity for his age. There was little chance he was going to absorb contact and finish in the paint against 17 year old men, but Conley did what he could do well. At this point Conley is skilled and aware offensively. He can dribble and score when given time.

Working on the controllables are vital to his basketball future. Integrate pull-up jumpers. Finish with the left hand. Focus on transition defense. These are all things every young player can improve.

Conley is in a strong, advantageous place for a ’26 prospect.
