Deuce Kelly | Prep Hoops Scout
Hughes was the offensive centerpiece for Crowley County, finishing with a dominant 31-point performance, including 17 in the second half. His ability to finish through contact, along with his acrobatic body control, made him tough to defend. Hughes also showed strong passing ability, decent ball-handling skills, and a knack for putback scoring opportunities, making him a well-rounded offensive weapon.

Hughes has been on a tear early on, putting up 25.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 5.5 assists through Crowley County’s 2-0 record so far. Although competing at 3A level, he is certainly an all-state team contender should he keep up this production. Contributing a high clip behind the arc, he is finding ways to round out his offensive arsenal rather quickly. Defensively, he is a pest at the point of attack or while rotating over the swat away shot attempts.

Hughes follows his most productive season in his career, posting 21 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Bringing size at 6’5 alongside quickness not found often among athletes at 3A or lower levels, he is primed for another high usage season. He took strides as a playmaker in the halfcourt, working to leverage his frame to create great looks for teammates both last season and this past summer for the Miners. As he continues to improve his IQ, he could be a riser in due time.

Hughes brings good size in the backcourt, willing to attack the rim to draw contact or at least challenge the opposing defense. He was among the more productive athletes out in the area, posting 21 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. His particularly quick first step makes him a handful one on one, few opponents at the 3A level can stay in front consistently. The quickness plays a role in his success on the boards, effective flying around early for loose balls or second chance opportunities.
