A lot of hidden gems have begun to show us that the work they’ve been putting in when no one was watching is beginning to pay off. We will talk about kids who are continuing their summer jumps, as we make our way to the halfway point of AAU season, with the dead period beginning next week.

[player_tooltip player_id="1076335" first="Trey" last="Maxwell"](B Maze 16U) 6’5" SG

Vernon Maxwell III has had a strong campaign so far this summer with B Maze on the Under Armor circuit. A useful defender beside [player_tooltip player_id="1008900" first="Jahseem" last="Felton"] finds relief in passing the sharpshooter Maxwell the ball. He has proven to be one of the best shooters within the B Maze program and Coach Lewis and the Vikings of North Meck are excited to see the NBA legends’ son take the next step in his basketball progression. A lengthy defender that has elite 3&D potential. He will be one of the best defenders in the State with a contagious intensity that will be hard to go unnoticed. In the second half of the Under Armor session, we will be able to see how competitive Maxwell can be against the elite teams in 16U.

[player_tooltip player_id="854899" first="Trey" last="Horton"](Team United 17U) 6’5 SG

The shooting guard from Providence Day is one of the better catch and shoot players in the State. Amazing without the ball in his hand, constantly active and continuously running off of screens. Continuously tiring out his defender as he runs around the perimeter trying to get open. Horton is a great shooter, he also can attack with the ball in his hand off the dribble. Approaches good angles when attacking the rim as well. Becoming a better defender and a better playmaker should be Horton’s main focus, he has the potential to play high-level college basketball with his intangibles.

[player_tooltip player_id="982145" first="Lewis" last="Walker"](Team CP3 2024) 6’6" Forward

Offered by High Point yesterday Lewis has continued to build on a strong year, committing to improving his body it has done wonders for his lateral movement. A versatile player that can play virtually every position, and thrives on the wing and with the ball in his hand. He is a feisty player that uses his aggressive defensive play to create efficient offense for himself as well. Has become a better scorer with his back to the basket, although he is undersized Walker uses his body to create space to score easily. As he becomes a better playmaker it will open up his game even more.

[player_tooltip player_id="577871" first="Avion" last="Pinner"](Team Curry 17U) 6’5" Guard

Pinner is an active guard that stays above the rim constantly, he has a quick twitch and is an above-average slasher as well. Pinner is an improving defender because of his length and size. He affects passing lanes and has shown his ability to become an above-the-rim defender as a weak side defender as well. The Wilmington native has shown that he is an improving three-point shooter, just has to become more confident. He has shown some flashes of nice playmaking ability, especially at the elbow when he receives entry passes as well.
