Our tour through the Big North continues with a handful of guards who will be worth watching over the next several years, along with a multi-sport 2023 destined for a gridiron future. Ramapo has become a consistent winner in North Jersey basketball and their key returnees for the coming season should keep them at the top of the heap as far as public schools are concerned in the Big North. Teaneck, on the other hand, will be incredibly young next winter and the players mentioned below will be tasked with holding their program steady as underclass leaders.

Nate Burleson | 6’3” | G | Ramapo 2023

While Burleson is primarily known for his exploits as a D1 prospect on the football team, he also had a big junior year as a member of the Ramapo basketball team. He’s an all around athlete who’s best traits shine in the open court. He’s got an incredibly quick first step that allows him to beat defenders to the bucket and he can finish through contact. He moves his feet well on defense to put himself in a position to create turnovers or block shots. He had 20 vs St Marys of Rutherford, 16 vs Trenton Catholic and 14 vs Bergen Catholic. Football is his future but if Burleson wanted to, he’d be more than capable of playing college basketball.

Wyatt Eglinton Manner | 6’3” | G | Ramapo 2024

Another player who returns for the Group III State Finalists, Manner put his name on the map as a sophomore. A good ballhandler who finishes strong at the rim and can navigate his way through the paint. Can shoot it from deep and is a hustle player who creates second chances. He had 21 vs Hackensack and 18 vs Trenton Catholic. A variety of colleges throughout the region should be watching his development the next two years.

[player_tooltip player_id="1153277" first="Peyton" last="Seals"]| 6’4” | G | Ramapo 2024

A third Ramapo player means they’ll be making some noise next winter. Seals might be the best of the bunch, having had a fantastic sophomore year. A crafty, big bodied guard, Seals can attack the paint with force to get through bigger defenders. He’s also got a shooter’s touch and can create his own shot in addition to being a catch-and-shoot guy. Good ballhandler and he’s also got the ability to facilitate, as he racked up nearly 100 assists. Went beyond 20 pts in half a dozen games, including 27 vs Bergen Catholic and 25 vs Don Bosco Prep. His stock should explode the next two years. He’ll be one to watch for Hilltopper Basketball Club on the AAU Circuit.

[player_tooltip player_id="1411410" first="Keith" last="McKnight"] | 6’2” | G | Teaneck 2025

When we say there are freshmen all over the state making a serous impact and should already have the eye of colleges, we mean it. From Hasbrouck Heights to Haddonfield and from Trenton to Teaneck. McKnight had a huge freshman year for the Highwaymen. He’s got a silky smooth handle on the ball, can score at multiple levels and is a tough defender. Playing with the poise of a senior, he dropped over 300 pts as a freshman and had several notable games, including 21 vs Hackensack and 19 vs Immaculate Conception. Colleges should all have eyes on him already. He, along with classmates [player_tooltip player_id="1411647" first="Ty" last="Carnegie"] and Jarrell Harmitt, will drive Teaneck forward the next few years.
