Greer announced yesterday that he was re-opening his recruitment after Kevin Keatts was let go by North Carolina State. An interesting recruitment because he’s been committed for so long, Greer will certainly have options but it will be interesting to see who shows interest on a newly available 2025 sharpshooter. The 2024 state champion had numerous Division I offers before committing to the Wolfpack.

Honestly thought Saturday night against Louisville was the best I’ve seen Greer play for Kettering Alter. In the fourth quarter, Greer started taking over as a scorer with some tough off movement 3-pointers and a few isolation buckets to give his team the lead. Greer generated so much defensive attention and he was able to lead the game with four assists by hitting his bigs on the roll when two guys came swarming out to him. College programs are always searching for elite shooters and Greer certainly fits that category, we’ll see if it can get him on the court early in his college career.

A defending state champion who is committed to a high major program and our favorites to run it back? Greer is one of the players I could see winning the award when it’s all said and done. An elite shooter, Greer was second in the GCL-Co Ed in scoring at 16 PPG as a Junior and scored 20.5 PPG in the state tournament under the bright lights of UD Arena. For Greer, staying healthy and helping Alter through a difficult schedule will be keys for him this winter.

The thing I want to see more than anything from Greer is toughness. With multiple strong offensive rebounds and hustle plays to keep his team the ball, including one offensive rebound he had no business getting that led to a layup. One of the elite shooters in Ohio, Greer hit multiple 3’s off DHO’s and has a quick release that’s tough to defend. During one of the rare times where Greer missed an open 3, his teammate got the rebound and found him open on the same possession where he buried the shot. When Alter is sharing the ball and spacing the floor, the Knights are tough to defend and Greer can sink a defense with his microwave scoring ability.

Alter looked unstoppable on Saturday night as they were firing on all cylinders all game. Greer shot it efficiently from 3-point range (not the only Knight who got hot from the outside) with 3-pointers in quick succession early in the game. Greer has a quick release and sets his feet on the catch to release the ball before hard closeouts can affect his shot. I’d say the play I was most encouraged by Greer was where he ripped a Wyoming ball handler and fought the ball away from him, leading to a transition layup. Making toughness and gritty plays more often would be a nice development for Greer who has an obvious niche as a shooter at the college level. If he can become more than just a specialist, he’ll find it easier to stay on the court at the next level.
