A couple of upsets headlined yesterday’s district semifinal action last night, most notably Coopersville’s 57-50 win over Grand Haven. Check out my thoughts on the Northview-FH Northern game and the Rockford-FH Central game as well as the top performers from across the West Michigan area below.

Rockford 57, Forest Hills Central 53

The best overall matchup across the area took place between Rockford and Forest Hills Central in a back-and-forth game that certainly lived up to the hype. Forest Hills Central’s [player_tooltip player_id="1223504" first="Jonas" last="Vanderwoude"] knocked down a couple of threes in the second quarter to help the Rangers go into the break with a two-point lead. In the third quarter, it was Rockford’s Caden Pokorzynski who took over, driving to the basket almost at will to help Rockford grab a lead it wouldn’t relinquish. [player_tooltip player_id="1211148" first="Jacob" last="Bonnett"] ended his career on a high note, scoring 18 points and doing everything in his power to will Forest Hills Central to a win. Blake Murphy had a big game for Rockford as well, scoring 11 points and grabbing a ton of boards and loose balls.

Northview 53, Forest Hills Northern 35

In the second game, Forest Hills Northern threw everything it had at Northview, keeping the game within striking distance until midway through the third. Freshman guard Justin St. Antoine offered a glimpse of the future of Husky Hoops by putting together a gutsy performance against arguably the best backcourt in the state. [player_tooltip player_id="864018" first="Jalen" last="Charity"] stood out as the most impactful player in this one given his activity around the rim. He finished off a handful of tip-ins and had his dribble-drive dialed in all game. Northview also had solid showings from its usual suspects in [player_tooltip player_id="787685" first="Kyler" last="Vanderjagt"], [player_tooltip player_id="987644" first="Tyran" last="Thomas"], and [player_tooltip player_id="1111924" first="EJ" last="Ryans"].
