Continue ReadingOn Sunday, the IHSAA had their Sectional Draw for the upcoming State Tournament. Now, it is time to dive into each Sectional in the state. We continue on with our look at each in our Regional breakdown.
Sectional 37: Oak Hill (Host): Cass, Manchester, Northfield, Oak Hill, Rochester Community, Southwood, Wabash.
Breakdown: In Sectional 37, you have one of the best 2A teams in the state in Oak Hill who could be without their best player in 6’8 Caleb Middlesworth. That will be tough as this is a very tough Sectional. Lewis Cass and Southwood are both having outstanding seasons will be very tough competition. Oak Hill got a rather tough opening game against Wabash and then would face Southwood on Friday. Look for Lewis Cass to have a much easier route to the Sectional Championship game. Oak Hill is deep though and still only had one loss after the Middlesworth injury.
Sectional 38: Fountain Central (Host): Carroll (Flora), Covington, Fountain Central, Rossville, Seeger, South Vermillion.
Breakdown: In Sectional 38, Rossville is the cream of the crop having a 16-6 season with quite a few solid wins. Covington is also up there with a 15 win season and Fountain Central rounds out the last of the double-digit win teams with 10 on the year. The best potential game would be on Friday if Covington wins and matches up against Rossville in the Semifinal round. That could be the defacto Sectional Championship game.
Sectional 39: Taylor (Host): Alexandria Monroe, Eastbrook, Eastern (Greentown), Elwood Community, Madison-Grant, Taylor.
Breakdown: In Sectional 39, it isn’t going to be the toughest Sectional in the state but Alexandria has proven to be pretty solid this year. They have a nice draw playing Eastbrook out of the gate and a possible matchup with Eastern waiting. Madison-Grant got the bye and looks to have a simple road as well to the Sectional Championship game. Alexandria won the first matchup with Madison-Grant earlier this season, 66-52.
Sectional 40: Lapel (Host): Frankton, Lapel, Monroe Central, Muncie Burris, Sheridan, Wapahani.
Breakdown: In Sectional 40, you have last the 2A State Champion from last year in Lapel. They were really good all season long but have lost some key pieces. However, they are still solid and have 15 wins on the year. They have a ton of competition as Wapahani (15 wins), Frankton (16 wins), and Monroe Central (20 wins) are all capable of winning this Sectional. Monroe Central is the one who nobody is really sure of because of their lack of a strong schedule. This is one of the most competitive and wide open Sectionals this state has to offer.
