How about Stranahan against Pine Forest? Or Columbus against Dr. Phillips? It was an exciting end to a fantastic high school basketball season.
So what were some of the best performances?
Here are some my picks…
Michael Cooper – Forest Hill
2022 Michael Cooper is an agile/shifty guard that helped Forest Hill to a 20-win season. In a game against Boynton Beach, Cooper had 28 points and four rebounds on 10-of-18 shooting from the field. I remember him being very explosive at the point of attack and flashing his way to the rim with ease. Cooper’s level above the basket was also phenomenal. This kid can get up at the rim and finish through contact.Overall, Cooper averaged 19.7 points per game. He might have to go the JUCU route, but he has a bright future.
Kevin Pazmino Kevin Pazmino 6'2" | CG Cypress Bay | 2022 State FL – Cypress Bay
2022 Kevin Pazmino Kevin Pazmino 6'2" | CG Cypress Bay | 2022 State FL was a huge reason for Cypress Bay’s success this season. The Lightning went 23-6 overall with Pazmino leading the team in scoring (13.6 ppg) and three’s made (66 3pm). Against McArthur, the 6-foot-4 guard scored 26 points on 10-of-19 (56 percent) shooting from the field. Moreover, Pazmino canned six 3-pointers. It was one of two games where Pazmino hit six or more treys. He holds a 3.5 GPA and an offer from Albany State. His senior teammate, Noah Kattan Noah Kattan 6'3" | CG Cypress Bay | 2022 State FL , also holds an offer from the Rams.
Romulo Delgado-Gonzalez – Coral Gables
2022 shooting guard Romulo Delgado-Gonzalez was a multi-faceted playmaker for the Cavaliers. Just look at his 7 double-doubles as reference. Against St. Brendan, Delgado-Gonzalez went off for 33 points and grabbed 12 boards while knocking down three 3-pointers. He also scored 37 points against True North Classical Academy and 30 against South Miami. At 6-foot-3, Delgado-Gonzalez has the right amount of size to attack the rim and athleticism to play effectively against smaller guards. Overall, he shot 60 percent from the field and 53 percent from deep.
Calvin Sirmans – Lake Worth
2023 Calvin Sirmans is one of the best guards in Palm Beach County. The 5-foot-8 point prospect helped lead the Trojans to a 21-4 overall record and a spot in the 7A state semifinals. Against Forest Hill, Sirmans had a season-high with 31 points on 13-of-21 shooting from the field. He also hit four 3-pointers and dished out six assists. He can truly do-it-all and score on all three levels. Sirmans plays above his size and is durable against contact.
Shon Abaev Shon Abaev 6'7" | CG Calvary Christian | 2025 State #24 Nation FL – Miami Country Day
2025 Shon Abaev Shon Abaev 6'7" | CG Calvary Christian | 2025 State #24 Nation FL is going to have many performances like this in his high school career. Against Benjamin, the 6-foot-6 guard went for 41 points in 26 minutes while shooting 13-of-20 from the field. Moreover, Abaev knocked down ten 3-pointers. Some kids don’t do that in four or five games, let alone one. Not to mention, scoring that amount of points in essentially three quarters. Abaev’s fluid motion and quick release is tough to stop. He always seemed confident shooting the ball and never wavered under pressure. Abaev will only get stronger, which will tune his offensive repertoire. Overall, he averaged 21 points per game and shot 43 percent from the perimeter. Abaev holds offers from SMU, St. John’s and Florida Gulf Coast.
